We have eaten here before and the food is good. But yesterday I wanted a coffee so we stopped in they have two options, hot and iced. I got the iced coffee with caramel, it was the worst coffee I have ever had in my life. It was in a plastic iced coffee cup but it was hot and didn’t have a single ice cube in it. They do have a good food menu though and if you sit outside you can see the animals which is cool

I had a great lunch here at Jambo Grill! A lot of the food and drinks were pricey but it was still good nonetheless! I even saw a giraffe from my seat! The only thing I would say though is that the chicken tenders were extremely crispy and I actually had to peel off some of the breading but it was still good! My friend had the mac n cheese and he said it was good! Next time I visit the zoo I would eat here again!

I got to Jambo Grill at 2:45 PM and checked it out, a little nervous for yet another crummy zoo meal. However, I was pleasantly surprised. At the Jambo Grill, a bunch of standard meals were pre-made, meaning that I asked for a cheeseburger and fries, and was immediately handed some. I also asked for a fountain drink and got one, deciding on iced tea. There were no straws or lids, either because they were out of them or didn’t think they were environmentally friendly, but that suited me because I actually got exactly enough drink so I wasn’t either left thirsty or needed to feel guilty about wasting some of it. As for the food, it was good. The cheeseburger wasn’t perfect, but was tasty and cooked well, not burnt or under-cooked. The French fries were not piping hot, but they were warm and had the right amount of salt. There were paper cups for condiments, and I got two ketchup, one honey mustard, and a barbecue sauce, and used all three types for a variety in my fries.

This was inside a building, and the atmosphere was prefect. Service was perfect too, and I got what I wanted instantly. Only real downsides are that since this is zoo food the price was quite expensive ($18.16), and since it was pre-made it wasn’t fresh and piping hot, but that’s the trade off for getting food fast. All told, I was pleasantly surprised and had a nice meal.

Very disappointed in the change that was made to Jambo. We are zoo members and are there several times a year and always ate here. The food was very good, they had great, unique offerings that were themed around the seasonal festivals, and the cafeteria style line was quite good at keeping the pace going.

The quality AND quantity of the food leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered personal pizzas and they were perhaps worse than school food. The drink fountains are gone, leaving you no refill options on drinks that cost them cents to provide.

I really hope the zoo management reconsiders what’s going on here. This is the largest food venue in the park and it seems that nobody is happy with the change.

Located right in the heart of the zoo – really great pizza slices and French fries. And amazing to know that the money goes right to the zoo for the betterment of the animals and the caretakers.

We called 2 weeks ahead to let the Jambo Grill a school would be coming so they had enough staff and food ready ahead of time. The new system for ordering food does not take into account school visits and students that pay with cash. The touch screen ordering option for cards only allows a cell phone number to be linked which they did not have. There was only one person taking orders. They ran out of number devices so we needed to wait for more. With the new system, 50 plus students needed to stay near to hear their number called with all of the other patrons and schools also doing so. It was chaotic. Other patrons helped with calling out numbers so we could hear with all of the havoc and crowds of people. Having food like fries and chicken fingers made ahead of time would have helped. We have been coming here for years and knowing how much these children spend on the high priced food only to be rushed because of the time limit we have is unbelievable. This new system needs to be reevaluated especially when knowing many schools visit during the year. The staff did what they could during this frustrating time. This needs to be changed!

The food was very good and hot. We got chicken tenders and fries. They were fresh and hot. The staff were nice, but it was a wait to get the food. I prefer waiting if the food tastes like this.

Not bad considering you have limited options to eat at the zoo . The chicken was dry but the roast beef was ok. Fries are nice. The best part is the view of the giraffes and zebras while you eat. Prices aren’t bad, bottled water is overpriced.

I’m glad the zoo is making improvements and the Grill is back open but this is a TEN DOLLAR Mac and cheese kids meal. Includes no side of drink and fits in the palm of my hand. Highway robbery and a shame… Do better Pittsburgh Zoo.

Yikes! the food was terrible. We split the buffalo chicken wrap- I wasn’t expecting it to be cold with cold chicken. Minimal sauce and lettuce. Cold shredded cheese. The texture was so mushy and stringy I had to stop eating it. The chicken tenders were very dry and not very warm- my kid only eats chicken tenders and he could only tolerate 3 small bites before calling it- it looked hard to chew. My other son had 3 or 4 bites of the burger. The fries were decent but just tasted like a bag of freezer fries. Too awful to take pictures of. One positive note- you can see the giraffe from the tables if he decides to walk over by the restaurant.
