The appetizers came AFTER the entree.
The entrees were fairly good, Butter Chicken (a bit too sweet) and Panner Butter Masala. Both were served with rice. Ordered Garlic Naan and Garlic Cheese Naan and got NO cheese.
Ordered Dal Makhani which is beans that are slow cooked with spices, to become somewhat creamy. There was nothing slow cooked at all. It was watery and tasteless. They didn’t serve the Dal with anything. It’s not like it’s a soup. ♀️
The appetizers were Samosa Chat and Hara Bhara Kabab. The Samosas were great but the Kabab, were NOT. They are potato spiced patties but the seasoning was raw in them. That’s all you could taste.
Order ‘Fresh Lime Juice’ but the lemonade was made from the bottled lime juice that tatste of preservatives. It was also lukewarm. The ice cubes melted as soon as she set the glasses on the table.
The waitress had a hard time differentiating the dishes, but she was very personable and attentive. She was very apologetic. The service was a 10/10.
We didn’t finish any of the dishes. It was disappointing.
I wouldn’t say I wouldn’t go back but stick to the Jamaican food.
Another night we were touring Island Village and decided to give them another try. We had Lollipop Chicken, puri puri style, garlic shrimp and once again the jerk pork and fries.
ALL WERE PERFECTION.
ALCOHOLIC DRINKS ARE EXTREMELY WATERED DOWN, then they fill it with ice so once it melts. You only taste the fruit of the drinks.
It’s good to give it a try if you’re in the area, BUT ITS NOT PAYING A 6gs TOLL for.
Will definitely re-visit on next vacation to the island.
According to my husband, it was the best chilli paneer he’s ever had, and honestly, I have to agree it was pretty good.
Our server Lori was the sweetest and most attentive person. She checked in on us often, helped with recommendations, and just made the whole experience feel so warm and welcoming.
If you are craving some good food while in Ochi, this place is a must try.
On our way, we even stopped by a seafood restaurant nearby, but the ambiance just didn’t feel as cozy and welcoming, so we happily chose Jam India again. Since it was our second day in a row dining here, the owners, Miss Mandy and her husband Satish, recognized us and even took a picture with us. Such a warm and personal touch!
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ochi—authentic flavors, great atmosphere, and truly wonderful people behind it all.
Located in Island Village, Jam-Indian is a small but vibrantly decorated restaurant with indoor and outdoor covered seating. Although it was a Sunday night, it was quite busy so we enjoyed the live karaoke outside in the meantime. After a short wait, Sasha, our server, seated us. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and stir fried vegetables while my companion had the curry goat with rice. We also got two “West Indians” which were quite strong! I had to order some pineapple juice to add to mine! I was served a generous portion of fried rice which was quite delicious. My dining companion also appreciated the flavor of the curried goat.
My only complaint is regarding the extended wait time for taking our order and for the food to be served. Our server Sasha was clearly overwhelmed as there was also a surprise engagement happening at the same time. I did not see another server until much later on.
Overall, this dining experience was a pleasant surprise and I plan to visit again soon.
Furthermore, the food is so ridiculously over priced. $32 for two pancakes and an omelette? $22 for a SIDE of brown stew chicken that was all bone, and 3 fry dumpling? I couldn’t believe we had to pay all that money for the portion sizes. It tasted great, but we could get it for so much cheaper elsewhere with a bigger portion size. It also took 30 minutes to come out, which I couldn’t believe considering how small the portions were. The food was not worth $100 for 3 tiny meals. The server was kind and friendly though, and so was the other one who checked up on us.
