The food was really good. I wish the chips that came with the meal were a little saltier, But not really a big deal. They serve pepsi products. We went about four o’clock on a weekday, and there were only two other tables that were occupied at the time.

Great Mexican food. Pretty much in line with most other places of this price point. The restaurant is in the basement of the building along with a second bar. The decor was homey enough that it didn’t feel like a basement.
Entrees where good. Plenty of chips n salsa to start you out. Service was a bit slow however even though the place was pretty much empty. The staff stood around a lot gossiping in Spanish with other like speaking people at other tables.
I would go back, but will hope that the service will be faster and we would get more than 2 visits to the table by our server.

Typically I don’t have any issues with ordering out from Jalapenos, but this evening was disappointing. I had the chimichanga dinner and my child ordered a cheeseburger, there were no pickles on the cheeseburger and no queso on chimichanga. The food was still good, just disappointing.

1st visit, Pedro took excellent care of us. She had the shrimp tacos, perfectly prepared shrimp. I had the BIG BIG chicken burrito, it too was delicious. Visit Jalapenos, located at the end of historic 3rd Street in Downtown Wausau, you’ll love it, we sure did

This was a great stop to complete the trip after visiting the CENTER of THE WORLD to sign the visitor log. Two unique dining atmospheres…one at street level and the other in the lower level of the interior of the building atrium.

Nice people, and the food was pretty good. The upstairs looked pretty nice, but they had everybody eating in the basement. Paint peeling on the ceiling, no soap in the restroom. We won’t go back again.

I’ve been here many times mostly with pleasant experiences that I would give a 4-5 star review. However, recently I was very disappointed with several issues to our visit. I give this review a 1-star for reason #1. First, COVID still exists and is a significant concern with many families, we are all vaccinated so it didn’t directly concern us. However, there are signs at the restaurant entry that explain the state mandate to wear a mask even though the mandate was recently overturned, not a single employee was wearing a mask. Seriously, if you want to push customers away, that is how you do it; totally irresponsible, wear a mask if only for show. Second, we sat at a table they said had to be cleaned because it hadn’t been used in weeks, but then later said they reserve it for the employees to sit at during break time, so it was used often. They poorly wiped the table down after we sat at it. Third, the host got one of our three meal orders wrong which basically forced us to take it to go with the second attempt. Fourth, one of our drinks needed to be remade, on the second attempt it was undrinkable with a broken glass, again it was too late to make a third time. They were kind enough to take it off the bill. Each one of these complaints may seem trivial on an individual basis, but with it all starting upon entering with no employees wearing masks, we should have turned around and left the property. We won’t be coming back anytime soon. Jalapeños you can do better.
