The food here is consistently great, especially for East Texas. After visiting a few times and trying most things on the menu I’ve been impressed with the quality and variety of dishes. Unfortunately the service has usually been a bit lacking on multiple occasions. The first time we visited the server didn’t seem to know the answers to many basic questions about the food or even general questions (he didn’t know what Port was). Our most recent visit I had told the hostess that it was our 10 year anniversary and asked if they could do something special. She said she would have complimentary champagne for us but when we arrived there was no champagne nor even a “happy anniversary”. Also our waitress disappeared after bringing our desserts to go, and we had to go searching for someone to help us pay our tab after we waited for her for 15 minutes. These little details make for a less than ideal experience at a restaurant that aims for a fine dining feel.

My recent visit to Jack Ryan’s Steak and Chop House was a great experience from start to finish.
When I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the host and shown to the bar while I waited for the rest of our party. They have a well-crafted cocktail menu, and I ordered the pecan Old Fashioned. It was exactly how I like it — a solid, well-balanced drink that let the quality of the bourbon shine without overcomplicating it.
Once we were seated, our waiter was very knowledgeable about both the menu and the evening’s specials, which made ordering easy and enjoyable. On the recommendation of someone in our group who had been before, we started with the Brussels sprouts — and they absolutely lived up to the hype.
For my entrée, I had the ribeye with a twice-baked potato and asparagus. The steak was cooked medium rare and prepared perfectly. The potato may have been slightly over-broiled, but it still had excellent flavor. The asparagus was cooked just right and seasoned nicely, complementing the steak well.
To finish the meal, I had the crème brûlée, which was done exceptionally well and made for a great ending to the evening.
Overall, I think this is a fine steakhouse with quality food, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

To start off, the dinner was amazing. Wonderful food and perfectly cooked steak here. Definitely get the black Angus ribeye if this is your first time.
Staff here were friendly and approachable. Highly recommended if you are in Kilgore.

Great restaurant for being in a smaller town. The steaks were excellent. The appetizers (especially the Brussel spouts and lobster mac & cheese) were amazing. The only gripe was the pork chop. It was huge, but had the absolute strangest texture ever. It was like a meat sponge. Don’t order that.

This is my second time in this part of Texas for work, and my second time dining at this steakhouse—and once again, it did not disappoint. The New York strip was absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. I finished the meal with the chocolate torte, which was rich, delicious, and the perfect ending.
Big thanks to our server Dalton—he was a total gentleman and very attentive throughout the meal. Great food, great service—I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Its weird to find fine dining in a small east tx. town, but there it is and its well done. This place is a testament to the worth of proper sourcing for ingredients. There isnt too much on the menu that is alien to this area, but the care in its preparation and the quality of the ingredients are definitely something you don’t usually see, and what is strange for “round here” is delicious. It is obvious that the staff understand how special the restaurant is and they work to make sure their guests know it too. Id be proud to take anyone from anywhere to Jack Ryan’s to show off what is possible with food in East Tx. On a personal note, they make a really good Old Fashioned.
