We were there with another couple earlier in Dec. The husband and his son are also in the restaurant business. His son recommended this place.

First impression was nice. The restaurant was festively decorated to reflect the holiday season. I wanted to get a drink at the bar but we didn’t get there early enough. The bar didn’t look that spacious and while there were plenty of tables, the space felt tight to me. We sat at a round table where 3 of us were on the “booth” seat and one sat on the chair. While I felt fine where I sat, the couple’s husband sat at the other end of the booth seat and the way he was positioned just seemed like he wasn’t 100% at the table. He didn’t say anything so I suppose it was fine.

It got louder as the evening progressed, luckily we were kind of tucked away so I didn’t have to raise my voice taking.

One of us ordered the duck meatloaf, which is supposedly their signature dish. I had a bite and definitely prefer the normal duck dish.

The branzino was good tho, it was fresh and not overcooked. Their hamburger was pretty standard, but the fries were good.

The French martini was delicious and the other drinks looked pretty good, too.

We shared two desserts, which were too sweet for me but then I don’t have a sweet tooth. The other couple almost finished both, and I forgot to take pictures of them.

The service was good overall.

I say this with the holidays in mind. If you prefer comfort and space in addition to good food, this may not be a place for you. However, if you enjoy crowds and mostly a younger crowd, then by all means, check this place out.

Made a same day reservation for the prime rib dinner, it was pretty good! Caesar salad was a little plain, and the shepherds pie croquettes could’ve used a side sauce.

I found it a bit pricey for the food, but I guess you’re paying for the ambiance and location. Definitely vibey!

Came here on a friend’s recommendation for their Sunset Menu and it did not disappoint! The Jack Jr Burger was quite filling alongside some fries plus another round of fries specifically the Rosemary & Parmesan Fries with truffle aioli, and the Caesar Salad was very crisp and refreshing especially in this NYC Summer heat. I enjoyed sipping on my Jane Street mocktail, which was zesty, bubbly, and beautifully presented. The staff were so kind and welcoming, even letting me cool off inside before the dinner service started. The space itself feels elegant, like a modern country club and beautifully arranged bar. Definitely worth visiting especially for their Sunset Menu with friends!

We had such a beautiful brunch here. Food was amazing! The ladies swear it was “by far the best caesar salad of our lives”. My club sandwich was phenomenal as well. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town.

The food tastes okay, but the restaurant puts zero effort in the aesthetics. You pay $135 for the thanksgiving dinner and this is what you get. No decoration whatsoever. What’s worse is the steak dish: burnt brioche bread and steak, that’s all. Quite disappointing and bad value. The service and ambiance are good.

The quality of this place is well above middle of the road but its menu is competing at a price point with the some of the better restaurants in Manhattan – and if you’re charging that that level, it’s only fair that you’re compared for you’re delivering accordingly.

The restaurant itself has a decent ambience, the staff are mature operators – but nothing we ate was remarkable.

First up, oysters – fresh, interesting mignonette (highlight), presentation was a little eh on a pretty beat up tray placed directly on the table (I like a tower!). Decent New York oysters well enough executed.

The duck meatloaf (that gets a lot of love here) it’s a softball sized dense puck of duck mince that just becomes dull to eat half way through. Vegetables were excellent & benefitted from the wood oven most clearly, the potatoes were also well made.

Burger, 7/10, most of that score was carried by the bacon used which is following the path of Hogsalt’s 4 Charles / Au Cheval restaurants, it works well enough. Fries were crinkle cut, well seasoned but I’m not a crinkle cut guy.

Dessert was where it fell far short. We ordered the carrot cake sticky toffee option. What came out was radioactive hot in the centre, so much so that burnt my tongue in an almost nostalgic way, the last time that happened was at tgi fridays in the 90s from a microwaved lava cake . It was just so deeply underwhelming that we sent it back after the mutual tongue burning.

They were very nice about it & took it off the check. (Correct call)

Wine selection was decent, lots to choose from a the higher end. Probably 5 or so bottles under $100 on the main list, by the glass was $20+. We enjoyed our choices.

Ultimately, are you going to have a bad meal here? No, not at all. The restaurant was busy, hostess was kind and the ambience leans more ‘transplant quarter zip’ than I’d have liked. (Insert lament about the area).

If I was to return it would be to try the steaks, I think the wood oven has more to offer…. But dammit there’s just so many damn fine places in New York offering the same thing Jack & Charlie’s does.

Overall – 6.5/10 (7 if you forgive dessert)

I celebrated my birthday this Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at Jack & Charlie’s No. 118, and once again it was nothing short of amazing. As usual, the dinner was outstanding from start to finish. I had the NY steak, which was beyond delicious—perfectly cooked and a great, generous size. Every bite was a win.
My parents ordered the truffled pasta and the duck, and they were truly divine. Rich, flavorful, and beautifully prepared—everything you’d expect and more.

On top of the incredible food, our server absolutely made the night. He was cool, super polite, easygoing, and just genuinely great—I loved him. He added to the relaxed, fun vibe of the evening, and we honestly had a blast the entire time.

Jack & Charlie’s never disappoints. Fantastic food, great service, and the perfect place to celebrate something special. Can’t wait to come back.
