Inspired by the owner’s grandfather’s restaurant, John Amato has combined his 15 years of experience in the industry and a degree in restaurant management from the University of Houston to create a welcoming atmosphere for all ages. After 2 days on the flight line at Ellington Field for Wings Over Houston air show doing my Captain Mama magic, I asked the air show staff “What is a close-by-place with great food that would be perfect after the air show?”
I was told go to J Henry’s – “their food is wonderful.”
Imagine my surprise when I got here and I saw the huge list of draft beers!! I tried three of them (8, 22, 51) and got so relaxed after eating bacon-wrapped shrimp and bacon tomato basil soup that I literally fell asleep in the booth!
Such great service; such fabulous flavors. This is going to be my go – to place every time I come to Houston for the air show! and the service was top notch!

Some of our friends discovered this little draught house. Huge and unique selection of craft beers. FREE SAMPLES! Great food choices. More than comfort food! Very friendly waitstaff. Highly recommend a visit.

I go the for the barrel aged stouts and the great food. My favorite meal is the lemon chicken with veggies. The kids eat the chicken sandwich with fries. These guys are great at getting lots of different beers on draft or in bottles.

Haven’t been here in years because we were super disappointed the first time we came when it first opened up. Guess what, it’s still disappointing… The beer list is decent, nothing special if you are a beer nerd. The food options are good. We sat at the bar and ordered the fried green tomatoes and they were ok for bar food. Didn’t taste any of the tomato. It was like eating breading, but hey if you’re hungry I guess that’s ok. My wife ordered the buffalo fries as a meal off the appetizer menu, and I ordered the Lemon Artichoke grilled chicken entree. When our food came out my wife’s food was very cold and my entree was warm. Seems that her order was put in as an appetizer and had been waiting for my entree. Needless to say, cold chicken and fries are NOT very appetizing. My entree, however, was cooked very well. Almost restaurant quality despite the saltiness in the seasoning used for the chicken. The wait staff was meh, my beer glass sat empty for half my meal so I never got to order a second beer which I really wanted. Bar tender was never to be seen until he asked if we were ready for the check. Yes, we were ready to leave. I was really hoping to like this place since it’s only a 10 min bike ride from my house, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe we’ll try this place again in a few years.

This is a great place for a regular meal and a great place to gather for a party. Most of the food is delicious! The Wedge Salad is amazing. The queso chicken philly is delicious. Their garlic mashed potatoes are great. The only complaints I have are that the chicken fried steak was very chewy, gut the gravy was delicious. And the other is they don’t have salt and pepper on the table. The green beans really needed some seasoning, so I probably won’t get those again. This was our second time there in less than a month.

Tried this place while on a work trip for dinner. The beer selection was massive but that did not dimmish the quality at all! I tried the #24 which was a Christmas style ale. Lovely crispness and middle and after taste. Likened to a Great Lakes Christmas ale in quality. The lemon artichoke chicken was well seasoned and portioned, great lemon flavor to add to the artichoke texture. All of it was cooked well to be able to get artichoke, chicken, and sauce all on bites. The veggies were excellently cooked as well as seasoned. Toed the line of getting to mushy but again, on the line and still enjoyable. The fries were great on mouth feel/texture and seasoning. A top fry spot in the area, not so much the crunchy crumbly look that most breweries have. Great experience would go back!

Order: Spinach Artichoke Sticks, Pretzel with Mustard and Queso, Chicken Fried Steak, Fish and Chips, and a beer.
Food looks and tastes mostly scratch made, but arrived quickly. We would order all of these items again. Other items coming out of the kitchen looked comparable in quality.
Wait staff was fast, friendly and attentive.
They have a wide selection of beer and cider. Family friendly environment. We will return.

I’m pretty stingy with my fifth star, but this place has earned it. Great wait staff, efficient kitchen, diverse menu, and an amazing selection of craft brews. I went first with my wife, but a few days later I returned with my three (legal age) sons. They loved it too.

Great gastropub! 50 beers on tap. Mostly Texas crafts, but a wide variety of styles. The food was really fresh and tasty. I had the blackened fish tacos and my wife had the tempura fried shrimp tacos. It was nice to have a side of vegetables instead of fries. Both entrees were excellent. The soft pretzel appetizer was really great. We will definitely return!

Great place to go,I highly recommend this place for very delicious food and adult beverages. I will definitely be returning several times! Staff was very helpful and friendly. You can sample the beers for your favorite one. The Pina Colada was delicious and a very different choice for a beer. The Artichoke Lemon Butter Chicken was amazing, the Bruschetta was delicious and the Fish N Chips was very good.
