They should have persons that only fill up the water for all tables. Because our server failed to check on our drinks.
Leftover food should have been handled in the kitchen, as in other fine dining places do this.
We were seated to a clean table right away as we had a reservation. Took over 10 minutes for our waitress to appear. She was nice, but kept disappearing throughout our dinner. Had to repeatedly ask not only her, but 3 other wait staff for refills. We started with the honey croissants which were ok. Then my nephew and niece order the steak and fries and I decided to try the filet mignon with the mashed potatoes. When we all took our first bite we all spit the steak out. By far the worst steak I have ever had. Not only did the marinade taste like hot garbage, but the steak was so tough and was like trying to chew rubber. I told one staff member we did not like our steak and then our waitress appeared. She asked if everything was cooked well and I said I needed to see a menus because mine was not edible. After another 6 minutes she brought me a menu and we discussed the pasta. She brought the pasta out and that also wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had. After a $182 bill I was so aggravated I couldn’t eat more than a few bites and we all left hungry.
Steak = uneditable
Mashed potatoes lacked taste and had a consistency of paste
Cesar salad my niece said was good
Sweet tea was also good. Coke was low on carbonation and syrup.
Good luck trying to get a staff member to listen to you here. We were there over 2.5 hours and left irritated with a bad taste in our mouths. Wish I could get my money back.
She took an immediate interest in our dining experience and assured me she could find us a table. She seated us in five minutes and we enjoyed a great experience with service like no other. Very impressive and an excellent representative for the company to say the least. Many a server could learn a lot from this girl. Enchanting exuberance.
Thank you Hope for making our evening so pleasurable.
First, we did not make a reservation, though we probably should have. We arrived at about 6:45 pm on a Saturday night. Google says up to a 15-minute wait, but we ended up waiting 50 minutes. The food made up for it, though! This place was packed to the brim with lots of reservations coming in as well as large parties of 10 people. We got a booth in the back next to the window, and it was nice and felt private. The tables aren’t super close together, which was great.
The mood is romantic with dim lighting and a candle on each table. We ordered the deviled eggs for an appetiter. I’m usually not a fan of deviled eggs, but these were actually really good! For our entrées, I ordered the baby back ribs with fries and a loaded baked potato as well as an Alex’s salad to go along with it. He ordered the chicken platter with fries, red smashed potatoes, and another Alex’s salad. The eggs came out fairly quickly, and shortly after we finished those, our salads arrived. These salads are surprisingly big! These are the best croutons I have ever tasted. Wow, I’d order another salad just for the croutons! We each ended up taking some salad home since we received our food quickly after getting the salads. Of course, we had to prioritize our hot meals over the salad.
We actually shared both of our entrées between us. The rib with fall-off-the-bone and absolutely delicious. The chicken tenders were really good. I really enjoyed the ranch, and he really liked the honey dijon. The baked potato was a really big potato, nicely loaded. The fries were really tasty. They’re small but flavorful. The portions are large! You get what you pay for, honestly. We had no complaints about our food at all.
For dessert, we split the chocolate cake and ice cream there while taking a piece of carrot cake to go. The chocolate cake was rich and delicious. It came out warm and melted in your mouth! It’s almost like a pudding cake. Very soft and delightful. It paired great with the vanilla ice cream. We ate a bite of the carrot cake once we got home, but we were so stuffed that the rest is being saved for the next day! It is good! I expected cream cheese icing, but I think it’s a vanilla icing. Chunks of carrot and raisins throughout. It’s a good size square!
All in all is was a great experience and a very nice date. It’s probably the nicest restaurant I’ve been to (We don’t make much money). The total ended up being $111 before gratuity. We both just drank water so expect more if you are planning on drinking. It’s definitely worth the trip!
We had a very nice and attentive server too. I think the only complaint we have is the 2 parties that loudly sang happy birthday (the extended version cause it went on forever). Kinda killed the vibe of the place so I wish they didn’t do that.
Our server, Ashley, did not greet or welcome us, did not introduce herself, and showed no interest in serving us. She served water without straws, walked away mid-sentence before we could even attempt to order, and was openly dismissive. We were seated at a table that was not prepared, adding to the feeling that we were an afterthought rather than valued guests.
When we asked the host who seated us for the server’s name, he refused to provide it and redirected us elsewhere, which only heightened the discomfort. The entire interaction made us feel racially profiled and unwelcome.
We later contacted management to report the incident. The manager apologized and stated he wanted us to give the restaurant another chance, promising to send gift cards as a gesture of goodwill. That conversation took place over two months ago, and nothing has ever been received. The lack of follow-up speaks volumes.
As returning customers, we expected basic courtesy, professionalism, and accountability. Instead, we were left feeling disrespected, ignored, and dismissed. This experience has seriously changed how we view this establishment, and I hope management takes situations like this seriously to ensure no other guests are treated this way. Corporate will be contacted.
The drinks menu is impressive, but the Old Fashioned and Sparkling Paloma are absolute standouts. The bartender’s attention to detail and skillful mixing elevate these classics to new heights.
For my meal, I opted for the French Dip sandwich and a side of Mac and cheese. Both dishes were outstanding, with the meat in the sandwich cooked to perfection. The Mac and cheese was creamy and rich, providing a delightful contrast to the savory sandwich.
Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, and provided exceptional service throughout our meal. She ensured that every need was met and every question was answered.
Overall, I highly recommend J. Alexanders for a sophisticated dining experience. With its exceptional cocktails, delicious cuisine, and outstanding service, this restaurant is sure to impress even the most discerning palates.
