This is a surprising hidden authentic Japanese izakaya, tucked away neatly by Grand Central Station Terminal only a short walk away. It is a Michelin-rated restaurant with a full bar and excellent dining spaces within its interior layout, that includes private rooms for guests and large parties.
The cuisine is highly popular and the price ranges are moderated and based on market prices reflecting the seasonal factors for the menu items. Otherwise a place notably like ones found in Osaka, Tokyo, and Kyoto. Very authentic and hugely popular. Overall a superb experience and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for truly authentic Japanese cuisine.

Had dinner at Izakaya Futago in Midtown and it was a great experience. The space feels cozy and sleek, perfect for an after-work meal with drinks. We ordered the grilled eel with simmered egg, which was rich and buttery, and the All Stars sushi spoon, great bites w/ high quality fish. The large yakitori platter came with a great variety. The gyudon was really comforting. Their 4-stacking soba came with 3 different sobas and tempura. Ended with the chestnut ice cream which was delicious perfect: Everything was beautifully plated and balanced, definitely a spot I’d go back to.

My first time visiting, I immediately liked the atmosphere and found the food to be delicious. There are so many dishes to try, either visit in a bigger group to order and share more dishes or make a couple of visits.
The washu beef hot pot was my favorite dish this first visit, and the mont blanc ice cream at the end was a great way to end the meal.

Excellent experience overall! We came here to try to soba and boy the quality was top notch. Wasabi was delicious. Sukiyaki was ok. Cold soba was just as nice as the hot soba. Portion was on the smaller side, making the price a bit high. But service was really pleasant and atmosphere was good. Not loud at all on a Saturday night. Just a perfect Saturday evening! Highly recommend.

This place was so good! We got soba noodles and sushi and both were so delicious.
And I got the jelly cat for dessert. It was perfect and kinda tasted like panna cotta.
I don’t remember what our bill was but I remember thinking it was a good value (for Manhattan) especially since some other reviews said the portions weren’t that big. Crazy, you almost had to roll me out of there. Stuffed and happy!

The hype is real! Their soba noodles had a perfect chewy texture and their sauce was very flavorful. The Green Basket was def a hidden gem and must try-their dip was soo good (chili garlic crispy with pork bits). Their service was great and it was very clean and spacious inside. Would def come again.

I would not come here. My food took 30 minutes to arrive, and the atmosphere feels cheap and stale. For $30 my bowl of hot soba was average sized, which I would’ve been fine with if the service and atmosphere made up for it. Spend your $30 elsewhere with a better ambiance and hospitality. The bar for single parties is positioned really awkwardly, the lighting is stark, and you’re just staring at a wall and a sparsely decorated open kitchen hibachi area. All the servers were nice enough, but mine did not check on me once but stopped to chit chat with this guy next to me at least 4 times. Hospitality flop. Not to be rude, but I basically know this guy’s whole life story now, thanks! Wild!

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner!!! We got the hot pot and it was absolutely delicious! Lots of great flavors and tasted super fresh! Our waiter was also extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely come back to this restaurant when we are back in NYC!

Never again. Was going to Sakagura, then saw the Michelin guide tag and got curious… big mistake. Tried the lunch set- price was okay for what you get but flavor was super average. Service was terrible, and food took forever. Wouldn’t go back.

Very good experience. Lots of selection. Tried the sushi, which was interesting since it’s on a spoon. The yakitori was tasty and the chicken was filling.
I especially liked the don rice bowl. One of my favorites with the chicken and egg.
Food was served fast and fresh. Servers were very attentive.
