Don’t judge this place by its exterior. From the outside, Taste of India looks like a simple takeout spot—but looks can be very misleading. Inside, you’ll find some of the best Indian food in the area.

The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, making the experience even better from the moment we walked in. The food was absolutely amazing—rich flavors, perfectly prepared, and clearly made with care and passion. Every bite was outstanding.

This small, unassuming restaurant is a true hidden gem in Desert Hot Springs. Nothing but praise for the food, the service, and the overall experience. Highly recommended—you’ll be glad you stopped in.

We tried their food and were genuinely impressed. Being born and raised in India, we usually keep our expectations low when it comes to Indian restaurants, as many tend to adjust flavors for the general population and lose authenticity. This place was a pleasant surprise — the food was truly authentic, rich in flavor, and reminded us of home.

It’s clearly a family-owned and family-run restaurant, and that shows in the quality and care they put into every dish. Nothing felt rushed or mass-produced.

Spoiler alert: the food can take some time to come out, but that’s because it’s freshly cooked with love and attention. If you’re in a hurry, this may not be the place — but if you value real taste and quality, have patience. It’s absolutely worth the wait.

Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for genuine Indian food that doesn’t compromise on authenticity.

Delicious authentic Indian restaurant! Would definitely recommend it.
Really enjoyed their chicken masala and lamb curry. The naans were also really good. Good portion as well. Pretty good food and price in a small town.
They only have a few tables so there might be a short wait.

Very disappointing. The food was so expensive and ok. We ordered Alu paratha but received Nan stuffed with very small amounts of potato. Moreover they charged us 20% service tax without our permission. When we saw the check, understood that they charged the service tax by their own. After receiving the food, we ordered masala chai but they said that the service time is over and started sleeping in front of us. The washroom was a disaster. So disappointed.

This place is absolutely incredible. I’m from the Bay Area and somehow had never tried Indian food before, but while traveling through the LA area on the way to Mexico, we decided to stop here, and I’m honestly still thinking about it. The food was unbelievably good.

I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan, and it was hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The butter chicken was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and the garlic naan was unreal. Soft, fresh, and full of flavor. Someone else in our group ordered the chicken tikka masala and loved it just as much. Every bite was satisfying, comforting, and clearly made with care.

The service was excellent. Our waiter was extremely kind and genuinely tried his best to make sure we had a great experience. You could tell he cared, which made the meal even better. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall and doesn’t look fancy from the outside, but do not let that fool you. This is one of those places where the food speaks for itself.

If you’re in the Palm Springs area, I honestly recommend skipping the overpriced and touristy downtown Palm Springs restaurants and coming here instead. It’s worth the short drive. Prices were very reasonable, around ten to twenty dollars per person, which is an amazing value for the quality and portion sizes.

There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which is great, and while parking can be a little tricky, there is a lot available. I didn’t notice a kids menu, so I can’t really speak to that, but for anyone who enjoys great food, this place is a must.

Five stars without hesitation. Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and now I’m officially hooked.

Taste of India restaurant was a welcome surprise to this small little town of Desert Hot Springs. The restaurant is located in the corner of a strip mall and you might easily miss it if you’re not looking, but trust me you want to find this restaurant ! At first glance it seems like a family-owned and operated restaurant that is committed to delivering authentic Indian cuisine. Our server was very friendly and quick to greet us with a pair of menus. I ordered the classic chicken Tikka Masala. My wife ordered the Vegetable Korma and added chicken as a protein. We also ordered the garlic naan bread. Service was fast and the food was undeniably amazing. The sauces were elegant and flavorful. You could taste the authenticity of the dish in each bite. Me and my wife ping-ponged back and forth on each other’s entrees as both were incredibly flavorful. The portions were quite adequate. We brought home a small Togo box for our leftovers. The prices are reasonable but for this quality of food $16 to $18 entrees is a great value. We are excited to return to try out more of this authentic Indian menu. Thanks for a wonderful dinner!

Because my husband and I live in Palm Springs we were a little hesitant about a drive to Desert Hot Springs just for a meal. This food is well worth the extra time and effort to get it. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a shopping area by Stater Brother’s. It’s not a large restaurant and when you come inside you know this feels like a family owned business. One thing you will notice of the bat, is the amount of take out business they do. Obviously their food is popular.

When you order you are given the choice of spice level. We keep trying new dishes and our servers on occasion have recommended other dishes that pair deliciously with our choice of first dish.

Some of our current favorites are the Lamb Korma, Chicken Karahi, Aloo Gobhi, Matar Paneer and of course Naan bread. The mixture of flavors, sauces and spices are exceptional. We will keep returning to this little gem of a restaurant for the delicious food and friendly staff.

I have never written a review before, but I will for this place because I think this restaurant deserves a Michelin star. We live an hour and a half away, but will always make the detour to come here when we drive to Joshua Tree National Park.

We got the chicken makhani and chicken tikka masala (both at medium spice), and the garlic naan. The dishes are so incredibly creamy and flavorful I felt the urge to lick the plates clean. On top of that, the service was amazing.

We initially ordered takeaway and enjoyed the food so much that we went back to dine in 2 days later. The chicken tikka and butter chicken were flavorful and delicious. The garlic naan was one of the best I’ve had! Everything was fresh, hot and spiced very well. For our dine-in meal, the owner personally came out to thank us for coming in. As another reviewer noted, don’t judge the restaurant by the exterior. Though based in a strip mall, the restaurant is cozy and quaint. We will definitely visit each time we’re in town!
