Fulton Market Vibes: Carbs, Conversation, and Chianti
If you’re wandering through Fulton Market and the smell of slow-cooked ragu hits you like a beautiful brick wall, you’ve probably found the Chicago Italian Homemade Company. I swung by recently, and honestly? My belt is still mad at me, but my soul is soaring.

The Spread
We didn’t just eat; we conducted a full-scale culinary investigation. Here’s the breakdown:
* Charcuterie Board: A masterpiece of cured meats. I’m convinced there’s no problem in life that a thin slice of prosciutto can’t solve.
* Meat Lasagna: This thing was structural perfection. It had enough layers to qualify as a skyscraper. Hearty, rich, and tasted exactly like a nonna’s hug.
* The Drinks: We kept it classic with some crisp Italian beers and a perfect glass of Chianti that paired with the pasta like they were soulmates.
* The Grand Finale: Finished with a Tiramisu that was light as a cloud and an Espresso Martini that had enough kick to get me through a flight to Rome.

The Vibe
The real highlight was the owner. We spent a good chunk of the night chatting about how much the neighborhood has changed. It’s wild to think this area used to be all meatpacking warehouses, and now it’s the heartbeat of the city’s food scene. It’s rare to find a spot that feels this personal and “old school” in such a trendy district.

The Verdict: 8/10. I’m already planning my return trip. If you see a guy in the corner trying to marry a bowl of pasta, that’s me.

Overall not a good experience from the start. We had ordered one spaghetti, one gnocchi, one mushroom sausage pasta and two orders of focaccia bread. We ended up getting two spaghetti and one mushroom sausage pasta. We were okay with letting that go and just wanted to be charged correctly. The service was terrible, as they only came once to check on our table to get the check. We had to wave them down for service. On top of that, one of the workers had her hair loose behind the kitchen. I saw her scratch her head and use the kitchen. Our check came back after waiting 15+ minutes (mind you three other tables maximum). We were charged very incorrectly since they added another order of focaccia bread and the wrong (more expensive) pasta, being the gnocchi. She refused to give a refund for the gnocchi, and stubbornly refunded us for the bread. I would never go back there again. There are better places in the West Loop area for pasta!

Delicious! The staff is personable. The food is delicious. We watched the pasta being made from the counter. Highly recommend for date nights or meals with family.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Italian Homemade Company in Chicago, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience. The authenticity and quality of the food immediately transported me to Italy. Crafted by three talented Italian chefs, every dish showcased the true flavors of traditional Italian home cooking.
The meatballs, pasta, and sauces were all exceptional rich, flavorful, and clearly made with the freshest ingredients. Each bite reflected a deep respect for authentic culinary traditions. To complete the perfect Italian meal, a shot of Italian grappa added the final touch, offering a true taste of Italy in every sense.
If you are in the area and seeking a genuine Italian dining experience, The Italian Homemade Company is an absolute must-visit. Exceptional food, and heartfelt craftsmanship await you.

i just had both types of lasagnes delivered and they are truly gross. the veggie one is the wateriest italian dish i’ve ever had and the meat one is slightly better than terrible. they were both delivered in paper containers that leaked completely though before even arriving, ruining the salad that was packed at the bottom for some reason. kind of crazy actually for $20 price point.

Deliciously handmade pastas, appropriate selection of wines and capable for great cocktails. Servers and chefs put their best foot forward and genuinely care about you having a positive experience. My order was a little too salty but I finished the entire plate nonetheless. Lambrusco was perfectly balanced and paired well with the tagliatelle red sauce dish I ordered.

I would give this place five stars, but I rated it four instead because the portion sizes were too small. Considering the price, I expected more pasta. I understand it’s homemade, but for what you pay, the amount of pasta feels lacking. That said, it was absolutely delicious though

This was such a cute experience.

Atmosphere: ambience is on point. It had part to do with my beautiful and intelligent company. That’s for a different review though. The other major portion of it was the setting of the restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet they were cleaning everything, it was already clean. It smelled fresh, not overloaded with cleaning products, but just to fragrance reassure me that I’m eating off of clean dishes. The restaurant looks like it was recently renovated into this new space. It fit really well. I loved the interior decor. The way the tables were set up the full bar. Everything was in place and a place for everything. Loved the interiors and the colors.

Service:
The service was great. Lucky for my party we happened upon one of the floor managers or general owners. He did everything in his power to make sure we had thought of every option for food or asked us any questions. Any questions about the food before ordering anything then came to check on us to make sure that the food tasted good a few times.

Food: He even recommended that we try an additional dish, but we already had full stomachs. My friend had dietary restrictions and was still able to eat a healthy plate so there are plenty of options. I myself had the red Bolognese pasta, delightful.

I can’t say this location is kid friendly as I don’t have crotch trolls to take places. I will say it’s accessible from the streetscape. There is a large amount of parking on Fulton Street depending on the time that you enter.

Final note for now is I didn’t get enough pictures or food so I will be back.

Based on the reviews and the view of fresh pasta as soon as you walk in, I expected the pasta to taste great.

Unfortunately it fell short and is best thought of as a fast casual Italian restaurant. The tagliatelle with meat was great, plenty of meat. But the sauce tasted very basic, no added flavors or substance.

The vegetarian lasagna was a bit better, but even the cream pasta was disappointing.

Getting a bottle of wine here and hanging out here is a good vibe though.
