We have been excited to try the food at this cafe for months after only stopping in previously for a quick tea. I grew up in the middle east and love turkish cuisine, I have been many times.

We first tried to place our order from the menu but the lady at the counter was very confused and kept telling us we couldn’t get two of the same plates, and then tried to charge us for a more expensive meal then what we were ordering.

After we paid, we put the change into the tip jar and she angrily dumped it out on the counter and handed it back to us. We sat down where we couldn’t see the counter , and waited for our food and drinks.

When we went up to get water, she told me the drink had been ready and was waiting on the counter, which we didn’t know. Then we were waiting for the food for a while. She ended up coming over to our side of the cafe where she was organizing the freezer, and she finally turned around and said super rudely “I told you five minutes ago your food was ready”. We were like uh what? And the food had been sitting on the counter out of sight and even though we were talking very quietly we didn’t hear her ever announce it to us.

As we were eating, another couple came in and they had their drinks, food trays, and even silverware brought to their table even though they were sitting right in front of the counter.

After we bussed our food she then glared at us as we left and didn’t say anything.

Food was fine, nothing special. On previous trips here the baklava and tea was enjoyable. Was looking forward to making this place a regular stop, definitely will not be coming back.

We tried all the different kinds of baklava. They were phenomenal! The Tamarind roll was also amazing! And a lovely pistavio latte to top it off. A must stop while in the area!

Authentic & excellent! The ground beef börek was particularly delectable! The mom’s plate was beyond generous! My three girls and I were entirely satisfied on that alone. Husband loved the Turkish coffee so much he went back for another…and another! Baklava — perfection! And we know our way around baklava.

Stepping into this restaurant feels like a warm embrace from Turkey itself. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a delicious journey through traditional flavors. The baklava? Absolutely divine—flaky, buttery layers kissed with just the right amount of honey and nuts, melting in your mouth like a sweet dream.

The doner baguette struck a perfect balance—rich in flavor yet never overwhelming, every bite delivering that perfect harmony of spices and tender meat. And the hospitality? Whether it was the owners or the staff, they radiated warmth, making us feel like honored guests rather than just customers.

For the full experience, don’t skip the Turkish coffee service—a ritual in itself, beautifully presented and best enjoyed alongside that heavenly baklava. This place isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience worth savoring. Can’t wait to return!

⛔️Dangerous Food! ⛔️
A Broken Tooth and A Nightmare Experience!
I am absolutely furious and deeply disappointed with the order I placed yesterday, from your Istanbul cafe via DoorDash.
The problem is not just poor quality, it’s a serious health hazard.
While eating the Pistachio Baklava I encountered an extremely hard objec-it felt like a piece of stone. As a direct result of biting down on this item, I broke my tooth! I now face an emergency and very expensive dental visit to repair the damage caused by your negligence. This is completely unacceptable and a major food safety failure.
I strongly warn everyone against ordering from this establishment. You are not only risking your money on low-quality food but also, as in my case, risking serious physical injury.
I called the cafe to tell about this situation, but the employee was extremely rude and negligent.
I don’t recommend this cafe to anyone, because You can lose your tooth

It’s a complete lie, you didn’t provide anything and hung up the phone without trying to find out and fix the situation. You yourself spoil the reputation cafe and health of your customers.

Wow! The Turkish pastries are so flaky, and the baklava are all phenomenal, with many options to choose from. The turkish espresso is smooth and strong, and the chai and black tea were great as well. Not only did I eat here, I brought more home to share with family and the opportunity to try more of what I didn’t during my visit.

Since it’s adjacent to the DU campus, most patrons seem to pop in and pop out quickly, too, if that’s your thing. The service here is great. They are quick to take your order and get for food or drink to you very timely. Very clean and organized. Great spot for coffee/tea/food to stay or go. We sat at one of the handful of tables, right at the window, perfect for people watching.

Every single item ordered was delicious, with the perfect amount of flavor.

Ground Beef Borek: warm, flaky, spiral meat pasrty.
Dad’s Plate: olives, tomatoes, mild feta, roll, mozzarella cubes, party. And an egg. Side of honey and jelly.

Chocolate pistachio baklava
Pistachio baklava
Walnut baklava
Sesame and an Olive Simit (flaky round pastry shaped like a wheel)
Turkish Coffee To Go.

See you soon! Thank you for the great experience with Turkish cuisine. I’m excited to try a Spinach Borek and the Kunefe next!

UPDATE: After returning a few more times, this branch of Istanbul Cafe has really improved. Definitely recommend the Mother’s Plate to try the variety of flavors that Turkish bfast has to offer. They are very generous with samples as well. YUM!

Initial review:
Baklava was good. Coffee was ok. Lahmacun was very underwhelming. Not completely sold on this place quite yet as it has just opened but willing to go back and try more of the seemingly tasty baked goods and lunch items…
