Went to Island Grill & Pub for the first time, and I’m already hooked. When you walk in, you immediately smell the food and have a very authentic but welcoming vibe. They have plenty of seating and also a nice-looking bar displaying their liquor, which makes the inside have that much more appeal. We ordered the Boneless Curry Chicken, which came with Curry Gravy, rice and beans, and cabbage, but you could select a different rice and could also get plantains if you wanted. We also ordered a Spicy Beef Patty and a Jerk Patty.
Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, tasted amazing with very generous portions so we really had no complaints. If you are unfamiliar with Jamaican food, we highly recommend giving it a try as you will NOT regret it! Hands down the BEST Jamaican food I have tried in South Carolina so far and is well worth the price! The only thing I wish they had was an option for boneless Jerk chicken dinners, and this place would be unbeatable to any competitors. Big shout out to the Staff there as well as they clearly care about their customers and about the food they are serving! 10 out of 10 for me!

Haven’t had any curry chicken in a while so I decided to stop by and grab some. The service was quick. The staff was friendly and helpful. And the food was delicious! I’ll definitely be back!

I order jerk chicken! I made a order over the phone drove 30 minutes to pick up my order once I was home I realized I was given goat instead of chicken! Now who ever is working in tje kitchen definitely knows the difference! I called the restaurant to let them know about the mistake that was made, and the owner Steve blew and head gasket! He was upset and yelled saying you people and that he sick of you people calling about food orders being wrong. Well sir get right! Ill never return to this place Jamaican eaters be aware.

The food is excellent. My family alternates between ordering the Curry Goat and Oxtails. We’ve also tried the jerk chicken and wings The sides that we’ve tried are delicious (Cabbage, collards, rice and peas).
We would definitely recommend trying it for Caribbean cuisine

I ordered the oxtail pasta throught Uber Eats. The food was delivered in nice containers. The pasta was creamy and flavored well with a very nice portion of pasta; however, as you can see from the picture, they sprinkle just a couple of tiny pieces on top of the oxtail pasta, and that is it. For $18, I definitely expected what would have been the equivalent of at least one oxtail. That is extremely disappointing. I would like to try this restaurant again based on the flavor of the pasta but will steer clear of this dish.

Kiwi punch was so good and a pretty good size for the price. Portions and prices are great! The mild beef pattie was so flavorful. My oxtails fell off the bone and overall everything was amazing. Will have to come every time I’m in the area from this point forward. I recommend this restaurant for some delicious home cooking and great service.

The food is delicious. My husband sweet and sour chicken was absolutely delicious. I got the fried chicken but the Chef bought out a sample of chicken in brown gravy and it was delicious. I highly recommend this if you want authentic Caribbean food.

As evident from the restaurant’s response, I must have been imagining things when I thought an employee explicitly stated that the ginger lemonade was missing an ingredient. I had an edible that day, so I’ll let it go and assume it didn’t actually suck.
However, proper trimming of oxtail is essential. I wasn’t dreaming, see the pictures. While I don’t dispute that the flavor was on point, no one wants to eat flavored tallow. Let’s hope they up their trim game.
Flavor does not mean spice. The chicken lacked flavor(.)—24-hour marination or not. No flavor. I suggest incorporating a natural enzyme to help that marinade penetrate, maybe even some ginger from the lemonade.
Now I visited this restaurant based on a glowing review, from someone I trusts. So clearly there are inconsistencies in preparation and cooking. Unfortunately, during MY visit, it didn’t slap. And it’s all ❤️

I visited Island Grill on February 7, 2025, around 2:30 PM. First, I want to say that the restaurant has a charming atmosphere. It’s clean, offers plenty of seating, and plays good music.
My friend and I ordered two large oxtail plates, a side of jerk chicken, cocoa bread, a chicken patty, and two ginger lemonades. The first issue arose with the drinks—our ginger lemonades had no lemonade. They tasted like pure ginger and sugar water. When we asked about it, a staff member explained that an ingredient was missing, and since the owner was in Jamaica, they couldn’t figure out the correct recipe. We sampled the other drinks, but they all tasted like flavored sugar water. I’m not sure if that’s how they’re supposed to be, but either way, they weren’t appetizing.
The wait for our food was another disappointment—it took about 40 minutes. This was surprising because most of what we ordered should have just been plated from a pot.
The jerk chicken was also underwhelming. The only seasoning was on the skin, and the meat itself had no flavor. It clearly hadn’t been marinated, leaving it bland. I enjoyed the cabbage and rice and peas, but the oxtails were extremely undercooked.
The oxtails were not properly trimmed, which raised concerns about whether they were cleaned thoroughly. Even if a chef prefers to leave some fat, it needs to be cooked long enough to render down properly. Instead, all of my oxtails had thick layers of hard fat, making them unpleasant to eat. It was disappointing to see such an essential part of the dish improperly prepared.
Overall, while the ambiance was nice, the food and drinks did not meet expectations. I hope they can improve their preparation and consistency. This place was recommended by a friend who loves it, but MY experience was so disappointing.

Honest Reviewer Here: First off we come to this place often mostly good vibes and great food in the beginning. Stopped here Sunday around 4:45ish to grab the honey Sriracha shrimp which is fire brown stew chicken because that’s all they had available and veg Jamaican patty. To our surprise the patty after opening it was not it. First time we came it was golden yellow not too dry just right. Today this thing looked store bought which is unlike them. So please go back to your authentic ways, prep, and keep serving good food. The community supports you all.

I usually have a great experience! However, since they’ve gotten that woman as the order taker at the front it’s been nothing but straight attitude on multiple occasions which I let slide. I called to place my order this time and before I could finish I was cut short and hung up on. I kindly called back to let her know I was hung up on and I wasn’t done. I come here often and have never had this problem with anyone else. As a people we have to get it together when it comes to professionalism and how you’re talking to those who are supporting and buying from you as a business. That’s all.
