This is my new favorite place to eat. I work in the area and look forward to my reward of eating the mixed dark and white jerk chicken, sweet plantains, and the absolute best Mac and cheese! I love how they put extra cheese on top the Mac. Their jerk sauces in mild and spicy are to die for. I don’t get the rice and beans as it’s not my thing. I’ll be trying the cabbage and green beans soon. If you want quality ingredients and authentic homemade food try it out, you will not be disappointed.

I am so glad my fellow Yelpers told me about Island Express in Elburn Illinois. Authentic home style Jamaican food with Island Flavor at reasonable prices.
Mainly a takeout place with limited counter seating,each meal is prepared fresh. Jerk Chicken,Curry Goat and Oxtails are just a few of their
Jamaican dishes.
We tried their Veggy Patty and Chicken Patty. Flakey crust loaded with flavor. I didn’t care for the chicken patty as it was chicken curry which I’m not a big fan of..wish it would have been listed on the menu in a different way. Ordered a side of their spicey jerk sauce which added additional flavor ….bonus!
Also had their Medium Jerk Chicken platter with sides of red beans and rice and sweet candied yams. Everything was delicious.
If you want to experience good Jamaican food minus the sand,ocean and Red Stripe Beer,this is definitely the place to go.

To say the food is excellent is insufficient. The flavors are robust, vibrant, and well balanced in a way you don’t typically find in other types of cuisine, let alone restaurants in the area.
We got the goat curry, ox tails, and jerk chicken. It was love at first bite. After our first bite of jerk chicken, my girlfriend and I looked at each other and knew right away that we were about to embark on a flavor adventure. All the meat was succulent, balanced with sweetness/spice-but-not-too-hot, and flavorful in a way that will leave an indelible mark on my palate. The yams, mac and cheese, plantains, cabbage, beans and rice were all unsurprisingly fantastic as well. The plantains in particular had a lovely slight crisp to the edges that rounded out the salty and savory goodness of the other meal components. Do yourself a favor and get extra jerk sauce. You’ll thank me layer.
They were closing early at 7 and we got there at 630 as they got slammed, undoubtedly because the other patrons shared my same curiosity about the hype or were fortunate enough to have discovered this gem of peak comfort food long before. Nonetheless the staff was very friendly and my order was ready in a reasonably prompt span.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a restaurant garner 5 stars across so many reviews and now I see why Island Express continues to maintain that accolade.

What can one say but — Yeah Mon! This is authentic Jamaican cooking. My wife brought it home for my birthday meal, and it truly earns all the 5 star reviews. Jerk chicken, cabbage, mac and cheese, plantains(!), and patties — all expertly spiced and cooked.
For the love of Jah, eat here! You’ll feel like you’re eating a home-cooked meal, and if you’ve been to Jamaica, your memories of the beautiful island will come flooding back. If you’ve never had Jamaican food, eat here. It’ll be the best example of Jamaican flavors and love that you can get in the area.

My husband and I first time trying Jamaican food and it did not disappoint! .
We picked this place because of the high rating and it was on point.
The place is small but very cool man! Very clean and the wall decorations and paint color is a vibe! It represents Jamaica beautifully.
It was nice that they have sitting options for dine in.
We asked the Queen at the counter, what she recommended us to have as we do not eat beef or pork (they have plenty of other options) and she said the Jerk Chicken with the Green Beans and Candied Yams and to drink the Pineapple Soda.
The food came fast and it was delicious!. The chicken was nice and tender, the sauce it comes with is the star of the show for sure. The candied yams were amazing! It has a slightly sweet cinnamon flavor. The green beans were very fresh and the buttery onion flavor it had was wonderful.
Watch out! that soda is addictive.
Over all the experience was amazing.

Island Express is one of the hidden treasures of Elburn. Every time we’ve gotten food from here, it’s been AMAZING!!! The jerk chicken is our go-to. Always so juicy, hot, and fresh. I also really love the jerk salmon! Every side dish is amazing; we’ve tried them all!!! If you want a snack on the go, get yourself a patty. Honestly can’t recommend this place enough!

Absolutely blown away by the food here. I’ve never had Jamaican cuisine before, but I will be coming back.
I tried the curry chicken, jerk chicken, veggie patty, green beans, and mac and cheese. The green beans were definitely the best I’ve ever had and the veggie patty was phenomenal with a super flaky crust and buttery filling. All the chicken was super moist and the flavor of the jerk chicken was fantastic. I did go with the mild jerk sauce, which had a great vinegar tang to it without being too spicy for me to eat (I am very white). The mac and cheese was also solid. Honestly don’t think you can go wrong here!

I’m working in Elburn temporarily, and was very excited when I stumbled across this place. Everything that I have eaten from this place is an absolute hit!! I always get double Mac, peas and rice with whatever meat I’m getting for that day, I’m never disappointed. And a huge shout out to Kim she is so sweet like OMG protect her at all cost lol. And her cupcakes are so Delicious definitely try them out.
