Saw the reviews online and was craving some Jamaican food so we took our big backs on over. Parked right outside the restaurant which is street parking you’ll have to pay for but the its very cheap. Upon entering you hear the lovely music and are embraced by the aroma.
We ordered the oxtail and mac&cheese egg rolls and jerk wings for our appetizers. The whole menu is priced reasonably and the portions are generous. The wings were decent, they’re bigger than I like and they were luke warm. We finished them but would not order those again. The egg rolls were very hot coming out, plenty of tender ox tail, but the Mac and cheese was so so, it came with a side of oxtail gravy for dipping. I would definitely order those again! For our main we got a small curry chicken with scotch bonnet, rice and peas and cabbage. Absolutely delicious!!! The flavor is not too powerful and the presentation was phenomenal.

1st let me start with I have eating here before with no complaints. Food proper. However, lately I have been trying to find a great Rasta pasta. So I came here to satisfy my craving. Flavors were on with out question, but I thought Rasta Pasta was creamy and what I received was a pan of pasta swimming in oil. I tried to pick through it but it was uneatable. Just pools of oil unless this was supposed to be a sauce and if so it was definitely broken! I had to brush my tong to remove the slick coating it left. I just want a true Rasta pasta! But, to be fair they did give a full refund when I came back, so respect!

I ordered the curry goat w/ rice and peas and extra gravy and it was so delicious. I also ordered the mac and cheese by its self and the Mac and cheese oxtail egg rolls which I didn’t care for and I will do my best to be as detailed as possible.

Lets start with the curry goat. Being a NYC native, carribbean food for me has some really high expectations. It is very rare to find carribean restaurants in the south as prevalent as they are in NYC. In addition to that, curry goat is a dish that has become extremely hard to find in Virginia except for very few places. However, the curry goat from Irie was tender and flavorful, the rice and peas were cooked to perfection. The rice was soft and fluffy and the beans were soft but not mushy. I opted for extra gravy and they were generous and the gravy wasn’t a bunch of oil.

The mac and cheese had the perfect amount of cheese and would have been perfect had it not had seasoning in it. There was this strong garlic seasoning flavor to the mac and cheese that I could not get past. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite dishes but I just am not someone who likes garlic or any seasoning for that matter in that particular dish.

The mac and cheese and oxtail egg rolls just wasn’t what I expected. I’ve had this before when I lived in NYC so I was so excited to try it at Irie Ting. I was expecting to bite into the egg roll and taste the braised oxtail and cheddar from the mac and cheese. But when I bit into it, it was like the oxtail was on top of the macaroni instead of mixed in together and the macaroni cheese wasn’t stretchy or cheesy enough. This did come with some delicious oxtail gravy for dipping.

Overall the two sides may not have been the best but that curry goat and rice and peas was a 10 out of 10. I will definitely be ordering that from them again.

I ordered through Uber eats, my delivery was quock and they secured the food perfectly.

I called and asked how many pieces do you get with a large fried chicken I was told three or four when I opened the box I had two pieces of overcooked chicken and was told I cannot get a refund and hung up immediately They do not care about service at all. Avoid at all cost they already got put on blast for having 1000 roaches last week

Don’t sleep on this place. Food was supposed goooood. Goat and ox tail were so tender and flavorful. Portions were a great size for price. I didn’t want to stop eating it so good! Also, Christmas decor was beautiful

Ordered a beef jamaican patty, roti, and a stew chicken meal. The best part was the jamaican patty, the rest of the meal was, unfortunately, very bland. The roti was more of a paratha type of flat bread rather than a traditional caribbean style roti. Overall, would not try again.

Ordered on Grubhub and they serve me old burned and dried out chicken. It seems like it was there for over a day. They did offer to make me more but why would I want more of the same? Stop shorting your customers to save a buck. Would you eat it? Then why put it on my plate. I was so hungry I wanted to cry because no way I could even attempt to eat this rubber called chicken from Irie Tings

This was hands down the best plate of oxtails and rice and peas I’ve had in a long time! The oxtails were tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, and there was plenty of rich, savory gravy to cover both the meat and the rice—nothing was dry, which I truly appreciate. The plantains were cooked to absolute perfection—sweet, soft, and caramelized just right.

The only thing I wish there had been more of was the cabbage and plantain, as the portions were pretty small for both. But honestly, everything else more than made up for that.

The service was outstanding. The young lady who greeted me at the door, I believe her name was Kiara, was the sweetest! Her warm and welcoming attitude made the experience even better.

This is the BEST Jamaican food I’ve had since moving to Richmond earlier this year (in March), and I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. The ambiance was nice and inviting, and overall, this was an amazing take out experience. Thank you, ladies!

Drinks. Service. Flavor. Location.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Authentic Jamaican cuisine. The rum punch was like I was in Jamaica. The patties were perfectly crispy and flaky. The oxtails were meaty and flavorful. I didn’t like the plantains but that’s personal preference. I love Mac and cheese but I love Mac with SHARP cheese and that wasn’t the case here. It wasn’t bad just not my preference. The jerk chicken tasted like it had been marinating for HOURS! The jerk chicken eggrolls were perfect to share across the table— everyone had half of an eggroll.

The difference between a small and a large portion is the number of pieces of meat. Choose wisely because you MIGHT sit and eat the food even if you’re full—it’s THAT good!

The only issue we had: we ordered a chicken patty but was served a veggie patty. They were out of chicken but didn’t let us know that ahead of time. We were able to keep the veggie patty AND receive a beef patty.

The food is so good and the staff is very polite and you seem to never get both but they are GREAT. Dining in seems like a nice vibe and take out is fast what I usually do. I’m sure the question is parking, super easy and always street parking available. Don’t miss out on some good food!
