We ordered the oxtail and mac&cheese egg rolls and jerk wings for our appetizers. The whole menu is priced reasonably and the portions are generous. The wings were decent, they’re bigger than I like and they were luke warm. We finished them but would not order those again. The egg rolls were very hot coming out, plenty of tender ox tail, but the Mac and cheese was so so, it came with a side of oxtail gravy for dipping. I would definitely order those again! For our main we got a small curry chicken with scotch bonnet, rice and peas and cabbage. Absolutely delicious!!! The flavor is not too powerful and the presentation was phenomenal.
Lets start with the curry goat. Being a NYC native, carribbean food for me has some really high expectations. It is very rare to find carribean restaurants in the south as prevalent as they are in NYC. In addition to that, curry goat is a dish that has become extremely hard to find in Virginia except for very few places. However, the curry goat from Irie was tender and flavorful, the rice and peas were cooked to perfection. The rice was soft and fluffy and the beans were soft but not mushy. I opted for extra gravy and they were generous and the gravy wasn’t a bunch of oil.
The mac and cheese had the perfect amount of cheese and would have been perfect had it not had seasoning in it. There was this strong garlic seasoning flavor to the mac and cheese that I could not get past. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite dishes but I just am not someone who likes garlic or any seasoning for that matter in that particular dish.
The mac and cheese and oxtail egg rolls just wasn’t what I expected. I’ve had this before when I lived in NYC so I was so excited to try it at Irie Ting. I was expecting to bite into the egg roll and taste the braised oxtail and cheddar from the mac and cheese. But when I bit into it, it was like the oxtail was on top of the macaroni instead of mixed in together and the macaroni cheese wasn’t stretchy or cheesy enough. This did come with some delicious oxtail gravy for dipping.
Overall the two sides may not have been the best but that curry goat and rice and peas was a 10 out of 10. I will definitely be ordering that from them again.
I ordered through Uber eats, my delivery was quock and they secured the food perfectly.
The only thing I wish there had been more of was the cabbage and plantain, as the portions were pretty small for both. But honestly, everything else more than made up for that.
The service was outstanding. The young lady who greeted me at the door, I believe her name was Kiara, was the sweetest! Her warm and welcoming attitude made the experience even better.
This is the BEST Jamaican food I’ve had since moving to Richmond earlier this year (in March), and I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. The ambiance was nice and inviting, and overall, this was an amazing take out experience. Thank you, ladies!

Authentic Jamaican cuisine. The rum punch was like I was in Jamaica. The patties were perfectly crispy and flaky. The oxtails were meaty and flavorful. I didn’t like the plantains but that’s personal preference. I love Mac and cheese but I love Mac with SHARP cheese and that wasn’t the case here. It wasn’t bad just not my preference. The jerk chicken tasted like it had been marinating for HOURS! The jerk chicken eggrolls were perfect to share across the table— everyone had half of an eggroll.
The difference between a small and a large portion is the number of pieces of meat. Choose wisely because you MIGHT sit and eat the food even if you’re full—it’s THAT good!
The only issue we had: we ordered a chicken patty but was served a veggie patty. They were out of chicken but didn’t let us know that ahead of time. We were able to keep the veggie patty AND receive a beef patty.
