My accommodation owner suggested this and food lived up to the expectations.
Ordered the walleye piccatta with wild rice, mushrooms and green onions as side. The side could have been better. The wild rice is too dry and no seasoning but th fish was yummy.
Also ordered the forager burger (sweet potato). It is tasty but the the patty size of sweet potato can be a little bigger/thicker.
Hot chocolate was yummy.
Service is fast and good. Went in the afternoon after Christmas and there was no wait.

Truly an amazing experience from the food presentation, food quality and service was exceptional. The Chicken and Waffles were way better than expected and my son enjoyed the burger so much he ordered another. The wild rice chicken pot pie was ridiculously good. Amazing spot with pricey items, but the price matches the quality (in my opinion).

Best restaurant in Ely and surrounding area. I’ve been here every time we go up to our family cabin and it what I look forward to. The chicken pot pie (my 3 favorite things) does not miss! And the fish is too tier. Large beer selection and cozy atmosphere.

We enjoyed everything we ordered. We liked the variety of salad dressing, some of them seemed quite unique. The catch of the day was a branzino. The fish was perfectly done with a crispy skin and the sides were phenomenal. My husband enjoyed his walleye piccata. I don’t know if the cheesecake was made in house but it was very good and paired well with the strawberry rhubarb compote.

Great meal!! The whole family enjoyed their meals, local drinks a plus. I had one piece of chewy steak in my steak bowl or I would have given 5 ‘s for food. It was still incredibly yummy! My husband’s walleye was EXCELLENT. Will stop again!

Food was tremendous. First time in the building since it was Vertins Cafe going back many years and it has changed quite a bit. More open, lighter and modern. Had the walleye with wild rice which was prepared to perfection. Flaky on the inside and crunchy on the outside. If you’re near the Boundary Wilderness Canoe Area eating walleye is a must and won’t be disappointed!! My guests had entrees ranging from the pork chop with Brussels sprouts and flatbread with prosciutto which they all raved about. Service in my estimation just missing a bit. Couldn’t get seated for 30 minutes so sat at the bar. However, took us about 15 minutes to get a drink which was a bit tardy. Seemed they had two guys behind the bar but only one doing the bartending! If you’re in Ely definitely try out Insula.

Sat at the bar, served by Aaron on a crazy Tuesday night. Had the amazing Chicken Waldorf bowl (one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, so much flavour and variety of foods in one bowl) and a Maple Marzen beer. Loved it!!!

Salad and goat cheese app was delicious. I was hoping for more lunch vegetarian options. Did not like the veg burger and there wasn’t anything else other than a Beyond Burger. Husband enjoyed the salmon. Cute atmosphere and good service.

A really wonderful menu using locally sourced materials. We had a wild rice chicken pot pie, a burger, the sweet potato fry appetizer (can’t recommend it enough), and a fish sandwich. All were delicious.

If you are skeptical of going because of the prices, dont be! The serving sizes are generous! The walleye sandwiche was well executed! Hand breaded and fresh; flaky and crisp! Hubby got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was hand breaded and moist on the inside. Side salad was a good size and the fries are seasoned! Hit the spot and did not disappoint. Food came out fast but took awhile to get the billed paid.
