I got one of the chef’s signature dishes, chicken tikka lababrar. I gotta say it was good, but not so good that I would have guessed it’s one of the chef’s signature dishes. When asked how spicy I want it, I answered like in India and that’s pretty much what I got (unlike many other restaurants that will make it mild). I also got a garlic naan, but it didn’t taste like garlic much, and was a bit too oily for my taste – still a very good naan, though but I would maybe go with another variant next time. All said, I didn’t leave unhappy at all, but I also wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

Great service and atmosphere and delicious food! One of the best mango lassies I have ever had! The biryani, tikka masala, and veggie samosas were all excellent! ✨

The food here is absolutely amazing. Great portion sizes, substantial vegan menu, great vegan mango lassi and the curries just have that smokey earthy deliciousness, highly recommend getting something vegan/vegetarian for the table even if you’re eating meat – I quite enjoy the okra masala. They’ve got various tofu dishes as well that my friend’s would recommend + the naan, roti, and paratha are delicious. Was very jealous of a biryani floating past me, looked fantastical, can’t wait till they put a vegan one on the menu!

While working a project this end of town, we ended up eating at Indian Alley three times in one week. Between the incredible and generous food and the professional service, I think I can credit them with saving my life.

I’d especially recommend here if you’re vegan/vegetarian: they have an entire double page spread of dozens of vegan curries and breads. The tofu is really beautiful and soft, and the chaap curries are all amazing, the madras soya especially.

Easily my favourite Indian restaurant in the city!

We visited Indian Alley Wakefield during our very first trip to Wellington (we’re from Sydney), and we were absolutely blown away by the experience! From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcomed. The ambience was vibrant yet cozy – perfect for a relaxing evening out.

A special shoutout to Anil Kumar and Jacob who looked after us with such warmth and professionalism. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home, explaining the menu, offering great recommendations, and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Their service truly made our evening memorable.

And the food – wow! Every dish was packed with authentic flavour and beautifully presented. You can really tell that the chefs put love into their cooking. We especially loved the butter chicken and garlic naan – absolutely divine!

Highly recommend Indian Alley Wakefield to anyone in Wellington looking for delicious Indian cuisine with top-notch service. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Ordered from here just a few minutes ago. I was only expecting a pretty good curry – instead, me and the family think this is some of the best curry we’ve had. I think we’ve found our favourite place in Welly CBD. Also, best Chicken Lollipop’s we’ve ever had.

Seriously appreciate the discount on a large online takeaway order too.

Looking forward to ordering again <3

Indian Alley is a delicious Indian. Both the dishes we got were delicious and unique (both were Alley Specials!). The service was attentive and very helpful when choosing our meals.

Will definitely be back!

We were staying just along the street from this restaurant and had planned to go to an alternative – but I saw the signage and decided to try it out.
I had two 13 year olds who went for the mild butter chicken with butter naan. They cleaned their plates 🙂
I had the lamb balti medium to hot, and the spice level was perfect. My garlic naan was delicious,
I also ordered the special chai tea with sugar – definitely worth trying.
All in all a really great spur of the moment choice, and if im in Wellington again, I would definitely come back.

The food, the service, the atmosphere – lovely! I ordered the Old Dehli Butter Chicken, and garlic naan, it was absolutely gorgeous. Also the plates and the bowls the food is served on are really pretty!

I’d driven past all the time growing up, seeing the led lights in the window, but I went in finally on a random day with some friends. I’m really happy I did! The server we had was very polite and patient with us, it was a lovely meal.

From the moment we walked in, the warm welcome and cozy ambience set the tone for a perfect evening. The staff were attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about making our dinner special. Every dish was full of authentic flavour!!
You can really taste the freshness and love in every bite. The presentation was beautiful, the portions generous, and the balance of spices spot-on. It truly felt like a slice of India in the heart of Wellington.
Highly recommend Indian Alley to anyone looking for delicious Indian food with amazing service and atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back again soon! ✨
