The garlic naan and lachha parantha were overcooked and very hard.
On top of that, when we asked for a simple masala tea, we were told it was not available. This is a very common item in most Indian restaurants, so it was quite surprising.
Honestly, after this experience, the high ratings seem questionable, as the food and service did not match the reviews at all. I hope the restaurant improves the quality and authenticity of their dishes.
We ordered Hyderabadi Tandoori Chicken and Ghee roast chicken Biryani
Service review: Everyone pays attention to the customers, but Sumeet greets and interacts with each customer with her excellent smile.
The atmosphere reflects Indian culture nicely, with thoughtful décor and a well-arranged dining space that adds to the experience. It definitely feels like a popular spot, even my Uber driver mentioned the restaurant on my way from the airport and spoke highly of it, which says something about its reputation.
That said, I personally felt it might be slightly overrated, though I could be wrong since I’ve only visited once. I had requested a corner table, and it seemed the server wasn’t very enthusiastic about accommodating that request, which may have influenced my overall impression. Still, a solid place for Indian food in downtown Halifax.
We initially felt the 4.7 rating might be a bit generous—but it turned out to be completely justified.
While visiting Halifax this January, we decided to try India Paradise as it was just a few blocks away from our hotel. Going by the reviews, we gave it a shot, and I’m so glad we did.
On our first visit, we ordered triple Schezwan noodles, chicken tikka, and jeera rice. The noodles were hands down the best we’ve had in Canada—absolutely outstanding and a must-try. I’d recommend mentioning your spice tolerance while ordering; we went with medium spice, which was perfect for us as spice lovers.
Thinking it might just be a lucky coincidence, we decided to visit again—and the second visit only reinforced our experience. I ordered the Mysore masala dosa, while my family had paneer chilli, chicken fried rice, and chicken dum ka murg.
The paneer chilli was an absolute standout—authentic, flavourful, and instantly reminded us of good food back in Mumbai. Easily the best paneer chilli we’ve had in Canada. The dosa was huge and tasted great. The chicken fried rice had the perfect balance of vegetables, and the chicken gravy was rich and delicious.
Overall, we would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Indian meal. The kitchen is visible and appeared well maintained, which was reassuring.
A couple of minor suggestions: the crockery and cutlery could be updated more regularly, and the floors could be kept a bit cleaner. On our first visit, I did notice mosquitoes and ended up with a few bites—something I later saw mentioned in another review as well.
But I wouldn’t take away any stars for that as the food alone makes this place well worth a visit.
The starters were the highlight of our meal — both the samosa chaat and masala dosa were really good, and we especially enjoyed the dosa.
Unfortunately, the main course spoiled the overall experience. The BBQ platter didn’t taste fresh; only the fish seemed good. The Andhra chicken curry was the biggest disappointment — the gravy tasted uncooked and the chicken wasn’t fully cooked either. We couldn’t take more than a spoon of it.
Hoping the kitchen improves these dishes, because the starters showed good potential.
.. but I did because it was so good. The only problem is there isn’t a location back home in St. John’s Newfoundland so I can sample more of the menu! Definitely recommend.
