This was the first time return after 7 years since we first dine here in 2019. We had a 9:30 pm dinner reservation and the entire experience felt rushed and uncomfortable from start to finish.

The server repeatedly pressured us to order faster, even after we clearly explained that the portions were small and we intended to add more dishes. During the moment when we are adding four more meat items, we were being told “you only have five minutes to order,” which was shocking and unprofessional.

If the restaurant needed to close early, that should have been communicated before seating us. We would have happily come another day instead of being rushed through an expensive dinner. 700 something dinner makes feel disgusting.

Throughout the meal, we were reminded at least four times that they close at 11 pm. Dessert was brought out before we finished eating the meat, and we were repeatedly asked if we wanted boxes to go. It completely ruined the dining experience and made us feel unwelcome.

What made it worse was that the server spoke to the kitchen staff in Japanese language about us in a negative tone, assuming we wouldn’t understand, but I took Japanese language class at high school, That was extremely disrespectful!

Our bill was over $700. When paying, she showed me the recommended tip options started at 20% after tax amount, so it’s like it’s recommended to give her $150. Given the poor and rushed service, instead of $150 she recommended, I left a $50 tip but I then regret about it.

The server then came to our table and confronted me and asked why I only tipped $50, questioned whether I respected her, or did I ever respect the kitchen staff at all, and argued about the tip amount. Confronting customers over gratuity is absolutely unacceptable, especially after all these uncomfortable “you have five minutes left to order” or “do you need box to go” X2 (2 times) when we were eating, also “just letting you know we close at 11” X4 (4 times) after all these uncomfortable how much will you tip? Right now I want to tip nothing, I feel bad to tip even $50 for this kind of bad experience.

For a restaurant at this price range the food quality felt alright but the service was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences we’ve had. Food is alright but it ruined everything so We will not be returning.

The wagyu beef is fresh and tasty. They arrive in the morning from Japan everyday. We ordered two sets which are $160 and $200. Even though the portion seems small because we only have 7 pieces of beef in total, we are stuff after the whole meal. The appetizer and dessert is ok, but still a nice balance for the whole meal. The flavor of Wagyu sushi is mediocre consider how expensive it is. If you never experienced meat melted in your mouth then it’s still worth trying. Definitely tried out their plum wine(it’s not Choya), add rocks if you don’t like sweet drink.
Service is great but it’s also expected in this level of dining. We spent $500+ after tax and tip for two people. Be prepared but enjoy! Spots are limited so remember to make reservation. Doesn’t seem to save spots for walk in customers.

The food was okay, but definitely not worth the price. What disappointed me the most was the service — the waitress serving our table had a very poor attitude. Several times during the meal, she either didn’t respond at all or just said “yes” without following up. When we asked for the bill, it took about twenty minutes before she finally brought the payment machine. On top of that, they automatically added a 20% tip, which made the experience feel even less worthwhile. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and I won’t be returning.

I absolutely loved this place! We scheduled a reservation, and stopped in an hour early to check in and use the restroom. Before we could head back out to walk Beverly Hills, they offered a table to us! Super accommodating and saved us a big hassle! The waitress was very fun and all of us loved having her serve our table! Thanks again Ima, we will be back!

Honestly one of the most disappointing meals I’ve had in Los Angeles. The place is way overpriced for what you get. The food is just okay, nothing special, and definitely not worth the crazy prices they charge.

The service was awful — the ladies working there had cold faces, no smile, no respect, and acted like they were doing us a favor just by serving. Everything took forever — from getting seated to getting food to delivering the bills.

Even the bathroom was dirty, which says a lot about how this place is run. For a restaurant trying to act like a “high-end Japanese spot,” it completely misses the mark.

Feels like a fake luxury restaurant — pretending to be fine dining but without any of the real quality, warmth, or professionalism. Totally not worth it.

Would never come again. Don’t waste money on this place.

Probably one of the best Sukiyakis I’ve had in the US! Excellent quality of meat and service! Beef tartare is a must-order item if you love raw meat.

Wow why doesn’t New York have any sukiyaki place even close to Ima’s quality?

Sukiyaki is a form of cooking where thin sliced wagyu beef is cooked in a sweet soy sauce. It is SO good. It’s different from shabu shabu. There are so many shabu shabu places in Los Angeles, but this was the only sukiyaki place I was able to find.

We had Ima’s sukiyaki set Chef’s Choice and we were SO full at the end. The beef was so high quality – definitely the highest quality I’ve had in the US. The beef is never frozen and it’s sliced beautifully. My husband and I eat Japanese wagyu often, but this wagyu was exquisite and we had to take a photo.

Service was incredible. Our server cooked our food and served us. She explained each dish and we had great conversations. They changed the dipping egg after the first half.

My only feedback would be to have more vegetables. I found there to actually be too much meat and I loved the vegetables so much.

The dessert was matcha and ganache along with homemade ice cream. We got a great variety!

You must come here at least once – and ask for the sukiyaki!!

All A5 all the time! This is a luxury experience with sauces and accompaniments that try to level up to the A5 beef with gourmet preparations and unique delicate flavors. The ponzu was exquisite with citrus and dried fish flavors. If you just want meat go somewhere else. Come here if you want a super special meal where the A5 is the star but the rest of team is talented and playing hard as well.

Good service and high quality beef. The price is also quite decent for the amount and quality of beef and was quite authentic. Service was also prompt and courteous. While it wasn’t busy on the Friday night we were there, the other customers there seemed to be Japanese as well.

My favorite sukiyaki spot! IMA provides a consistent and refined sukiyaki experience, so I am always excited to come back. They serve quality meat from Japan with careful attention for all parts of the sukiyaki meal. The dipping egg sauce for the sukiyaki is slightly heated so it is thicker and carries the meat even better. Every bite of wagyu and rice at IMA was divine.
