You’ll need to be patient, as this coffee shop is in a location that gets lots of Colonial Williamsburg traffic. The staff works hard to accommodate everyone. It’s so much fun to have a delicious coffee, sit outside on DOG St, and people-watch!

Decided to try since Aromas like was out the door. Big mistake. Came in and ordered hot coffee and a chocolate croissant. The sign in the pastry container said $4.95 but it rang up as $5.60 When I pulled it out, the cashier checked the sign, turned it around, and came back to say it’s wrong. Then asked if I want it or not with a rude tone. Coffee tastes burnt, they didn’t leave room for cream like I asked (and receipt stated) but did give a refund for the coffee.

The service of the staff was not satisfactory, perhaps because it was a tourist destination, the staff was not very friendly, the coffee was the basic taste of Illis, so it was all the more real, I guess I had too high expectations for Illis….

I had been visiting the Richmond Road Extraordinary Cupcake location for years with extremely great service and the best quality cupcakes! I would make the 1 hour drive from Richmond just for these cupcakes. Well that changed when I ordered online for the new location at Illy Cafe and have never been more let down. Not only were the staff extremely rude at the counter when I asked about my pickup order but it took an hour to even get the cupcakes I ordered. I had to ask about my order 2x at the counter where I was met with eye rolls and sarcasm. I was shocked at how the lady spoke to me just for simply asking if they even received my order. The cupcake icing was melting when I finally got my order and cake itself was dry. What happened? Sadly I will not return here simply for the poor service, lack of professionalism, and the long wait time.

We got two lattes, and both were incredibly watery, and the milk was barely steamed. I don’t know if they ran the water through the puck too long or only did a single shot of espresso when it should have been a double, but it was not good.

Ily Cafe is a great spot for a good cup of coffee and a pastry! The staff are very customer service oriented and efficient, and they handle the vast amount of business they do very smoothly, which is appealing when you want to get in and out quickly. The shop is really cute and clean and there are some nice tables to sit at and enjoy. For me personally, the atmosphere is really too noisy and busy to want to stay and eat in. If I am going to sit and drink my coffee or try to work on the computer, I need a lot less chaos. That said, for a quick rest during the shopping day on Duke of Gloucester, it’s perfect. They have a large selection of pastries that all look very fresh and appealing. My Daughter really enjoyed her chocolate croissant! One unfortunate thing is that they didn’t seem to have any gluten-free offerings for my husband, who is Gluten Intolerant.

Went in last week after I called to see if extraordinary cupcake was in the building. I was told yes and 4 cupcakes were left. They guy who answered the phone said if I was in soon he would set 2 off to the side which we agreed too because we were 5 minutes away. When I entered and said I called and they set 2 cupcakes to the side the lady who was working the register was soooo rude! She said we dont do call ahead and it’s first come first serve. I had no issue with that and understand but how she said it was completely unacceptable. The gentlemen working were so polite and amazing. That one lady should not be working in customer service.

Loved the espresso cup chandeliers which caught my eye the minute I walked it. My partner and I each got a coconut foam cold brew and a sandwich- a caprese sandwich and a frittata with turkey sausage on a croissant. Everything exceeded my expectations. The coffee was a perfect strength for me and my caprese sandwich was the right combination of creamy mozzarella, fresh tomato, and perfectly salty pesto on a light, beautifully braided focaccia bread. My lunch partners frittata was light and fluffy with cheesy goodness and little pieces of sausage on a light crispy croissant that held the sandwich together nicely. Worth the visit!
