Il Fornaio | Mountain View
Il Fornaio presents a beautifully modern decorated space that balances semi-formal elegance with casual comfort. Guests can choose to dine indoors or enjoy the outdoor patio, where pets are welcome.
The meal began with warm, crispy bread (xtra charge) served alongside extra virgin olive oil and vinegar—simple, classic, and satisfying.
The Calamari appetizer was exceptional: crisp on the outside, tender and moist inside, with rich flavor and aroma.
The Linguine Mare Chiaro was another standout. Thin pasta in roasted cherry tomato sauce paired perfectly with clams, mussels, shrimps, and scallops. The seafood was remarkably fresh, flavorful, and aromatic, reminiscent of a seaside meal.
The Pappardelle alla Norcina con Pollo featured silky ribbons of rich tasty egg pasta in a savory sauce. While flavorful, the chicken breast portion was small and dry; more tenderness and a more generous serving would improve the dish.
Service was top-notch, friendly and professional. Our server, Paola, was warm, attentive, and professional, elevating the entire dining experience.
Overall, Il Fornaio delivers a remarkable and relaxing atmosphere with dishes that surprise with freshness and flavor. A place we’ll happily return to with friends and family.
The food is of the highest quality and preparation, and the menu selections are representative of high scale Italian cooking quite above what one finds at most Italian restaurants, but still in an affordable price range. From the moment we arrive we are met and treated like honored guests by the entire staff, from the manager to the bus-boy. To me the most important element of a restaurant experience is to be recognized and remembered by name as soon as you walk in. Here they remember not just your name but your unique preferences and will always ask if we want “the usual”. The ambiance is upscale, warm, and inviting. You really want to linger here and not rush through your meal. There is a great Happy Hour offered which can be had either at the bar or at tables inside and outside, but best enjoyed at the bar for the friendly interaction with the attentive and friendly bar staff, and conversation with other guests. So for excellent food, an upscale warm and inviting atmosphere, and welcoming staff, I highly recommend Il Fornaio in Mt. View… and, tell John, the manager I sent you. He and the entire staff will treat you like family.
from the manager, John, who checked on our group twice despite it being a very busy night and he made us feel very welcomed, like we were the only group in there! Thank you for making our family’s annual holiday dinner an amazing experience to remember, we will certain be back to the Mountain View location!
On our first visit, our waitress surprised us with a free appetizer, and on the second, the manager treated us to a dessert sampler on the house. We actually talked to the manager both times — not because anything was wrong, he just stopped by to check on us and make sure everything was great. He even remembered us on our return visit, which says a lot about how much they care.
Everyone we’ve met there has been friendly and welcoming, and the food and wine have both been really good. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a regular after just one visit. Definitely recommend.
