The server was absolutely outstanding.
Made conversation, made sure to check on us a lot, ask us what we need, extra napkins, water fill, what kind of syrup, lemons for your water? All kinds of suggestions and offerings. Wasn’t sure exactly when we were leaving but wanted to make sure to wish us safe travels.
Just an all around good guy and caring server. The place is right near a hospital and he said he likes to see if he can brighten people’s moods. It’s a really wholesome sentiment and I very much appreciated him.
I traveled the whole USA and tried these two in every corner of IHOP.
Only and only this one is acceptable — and the best — not just among IHOPs, but also better than any other place I’ve tried.
If you know any other place with better crepes and omelets, let me know. Definitely would try!
Too bad they removed the salmon with brown rice, bread, and vegetables…
The menu used to have so many items and was affordable — one of the best.
But I guess too many options made it less profitable.
Bring it back please!
Non-meat eaters at NMSU would love it, and it was very economical for poor students.
It was my go-to dinner and lunch multiple time e wry week during my PhD life.
As far as service goes, they were super pleasant and very friendly. Someone was training and the waitress/trainer was trying hard to make up for them just learning. The only negative was they kept forgetting things or getting shorted on things. Like getting a tea kettle that was half full so only getting a cup and a half out of it. They still offered to refill coffee and tea, so it ended up okay, just the inconvenience of waiting for them to come back once you realized you were empty and waiting another 3-4 minutes to get a refill. The waitress/trainer kind of took over at one point and did offer to get everything, so good on her. We tried cleaning up at the end to make bussing easier (the actual easier. Not the ‘bless your heart’ easier where they glob everything together and make it a nightmare for them by accident).
As for the food, I really like Eggs Benedict, but this unfortunately didn’t deliver. I had the Pablano and it was so tasteless, the thing I tastes the most was the Chalula and the pepper I had to put on it for flavor. The shredded beef was a bit dry and could have been old or overcooked. But it just had nothing to it. Edible, not really enjoyable. Also, you’re in the middle of the Mesilla Valley serving Pablano and no Hatch Chile option? Seems like a missed opportunity.
The ham, waffles, and chicken were all overcooked as well. In fact, if you can cut open a chicken tender and the meat is separated from the fried breading inside, its overcooked.
On pricing, I’ll start out by saying it really stinks the price of drinks can slide up over $3.50 and offer no free refills. Also, there’s almost no menu item under $10, save for the kids menu, and its on the high end. You could also get a short stack of pancakes only for $7.99, but adding anything to it takes it up over 10.
On the atmosphere, the restaurant has the dividers up on the booths still, and most of them are tattered and leaning, which gives it a really run down vibe, even if its clean and well kept. Also, almost every condiment is kept in the back, so the poor wait staff has to make more runs to get it. Lastly, they put a couple of tables together for us to sit, but one had this awkward extension that was clearly aged or broken because it wouldn’t sit flat. We ended up having this little valley in the middle of our set up we couldn’t use because everything would slide on it, lol.
Good part of town right near the interstate and close to NMSU. Great location. Just some basics to deliver on. I want to, again, thank our wait staff for being so kind and pleasant. We didn’t feel ignored or unwanted and she was asking what we needed. Much appreciated. Hopefully a review like this helps the restaurant make the necessary tweeks it needs to be a 5-star location.
Our server (Savannah) did an awesome job taking care of both our and a few other tables (Y’all need to give her a raise). The food was brought out in an acceptable amount of time. The food was great, everything was hot except for the broccoli.
Bathrooms were cleaned, not maintained, eg. Ac vent was clogged, walls had some damage.
Overall, I would give this IHOP an
8.5/10
