I’m going to be very straightforward. This was one of the most disrespectful and ageist experiences I have ever had.
On March 3rd at around 7:05 AM, I went with a friend for the Free Short Stack promotion. When we arrived, the teens who were already there were sitting calmly and waiting patiently. After we had been waiting for a bit, a woman who I believe was the manager came over and explained that every teen under 18 had to order takeout and that each pancake was a dollar.
This made no sense. The app clearly advertised the short stack as free. I even looked it up beforehand, and it stated that while donations are encouraged, they are not mandatory. Being pressured to pay a dollar for something advertised as free felt misleading.
She also said that anyone under 18 had to take their food to go and needed to be accompanied by an adult. However, I saw other customers dining inside, including an adult man eating without any issue. It did not seem like a timing issue. It felt like teens specifically were being targeted.
I wanted to dine in and even order additional sides with my pancakes, but she refused to take my order unless it was to go. That felt unfair and discriminatory.
I understand that businesses may have policies due to past incidents, such as the Bay plaza situation, but that does not justify stereotyping every teenager who walks in. We were calm, respectful, and simply there for a promotion that was publicly advertised.
Unfortunately, this is not my first negative experience at this IHOP location. In previous visits, servers were rude and inattentive. On one occasion, The waiter came to our table only twice, one of those times because we had to call him over, and still expected a tip, getting our food wrong and even tried accusing us of eating said food when we sent it back the moment he brought it over.
In the end, we chose to leave. I am not going to spend money in a place that does not treat me with basic respect and instead stereotypes me as a “dumb teenager.”
This experience was disappointing and frustrating. I hope management reflects on how they treat younger customers, because everyone deserves to be treated with respect.
Ordered simple pancakes, sausage & bacon and an order of fries for my son and my self took over 45 mins when it arrived it was cold. They also forgot the fries, ended up coming 15 mins after we received our food.
Requested more apple juice and sausage for my son it never came. Felt like my money wasted.
They waited that long because they understand that they could have been understaffed and like I said it was their first time. My mom went to ask at some point about what was taking so long and they seemed “understanding” and “reassuring” but after she left they started talking amongst themselves and the workers had attitude. They also overheard something about “bro, we’re in New York why are they pointing at what they want” like excuse me?? Horrible and disgusting experience, will never be going back and no one should either because it is not a welcoming experience at all.
Staff was cursing and complaining about customers and work within clear earshot of our table as they entered and exited the kitchen. Ignored for 20 minutes despite attempts to flag down waitress for assistance regarding incorrect order.
Left in tears from so much frustration. This was supposed to be a fun day off treat after weeks of working nonstop and will NEVER come here again. Also the music was messed up and the same rihanna song was playing on a loop until I mentioned it and was told I was “observant” lol rly? Manager came by and was actually pretty cool and nice/took my order off the check finally (and the waitress was overheard saying “That’s what she ordered!”
Which was not true. Lol there are 3 types of Eggs Benedict on the menu. I selected the Poblano one, which has pepper onions and beef- and asked for an additional side of avocado…instead I received the classic eggs benedict on a plate of bacon and avocado with an extra plate of avocado on the side??
Anyway… first and last time I will ever be here.
