Social Profile:

It all started with a promise and from there it was built on a vision. Gaetano Gravino was a hairstylist who had found part time work at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. This part time work turned into an opportunity that spoke to his entrepreneurial spirit – the same spirit that lives on in his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance came to lease the establishment, Gaetano and his wife Sally took it. And in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House was born – coined after a nickname given to him by his son, David. The featured dish at the time was the red chowder – the recipe a family secret created by Sally herself.

Tiny spot with a walk-up window for donut holes, fried seafood & burgers to eat at picnic tables.

1st stop into RI for lunch. We pulled up and we thought that the Iggy’s attached to the ice cream shop had a wait so we went next door to the other location of Iggy’s for the 1st time ever.

This place is really cool. Little beach out back. Totally has an 80s vibe to it. Teens working the counter, people walking around, beach out back where kids are playing and swimming. Cool vibe. Food is great too. Got Clam Cakes and Chowder with a Diet Pepsi and a Quahog for $20. Everything was really good. Their Clam Cakes are basically hush puppies but the batter they use has a little sweetness to it….really good stuff! Make sure to try the Quahog! It’s a breaded clam mix served in a Quahog shell. It’s REALLY good! Everything about this place was fun.

iggy’s was a great treat after a long few days of driving across the entire east coast. the clam cakes and shakes were great, but the fried fish was pretty average. the view outside of the restaurant was amazing, a nice and tranquil view of the ocean.

Living within 15-20 minutes of Oakland Beach, Iggys has often been a predictable go to…however last year several family members and me noticed that the quality of their clam cakes were not up to par….lots of cake and not much clams. Today’s experience will ensure Iggys is OFF my list at least for some time. Two cups of clear clam chowder and half dozen clamcakes $18.35. Yea, I know the spiel rising costs /prices..But the chowder was a potatoe soup with clam juice and a few little pieces of clams. It was bland and super clear because, well, it was mostly s. I enjoyed feeding the dumpster ducks (seagulls) half of my clamcakes more than eating them. Iggys without a doubt is resting on their name and location and passing off mediocre expensive food hoping, I guess, most folks will not know any better (maybe Midwest tourists) and /or natives with short term memory. Didn’t work in my and my father’s case, with buyers regret wishing we’d gone to Newport Creamery instead.

Iggy’s is just amazing! They have 2 spots located here, one a walk up and order and then a sit-down restaurant. We heard good things and were not disappointed at all. Everything we got drinks, stuffies, steamers, Chowder, Lobster roll, clam cakes and shakes were delicious! Nothing was to overly expensive. Our service was tip top, very friendly and attentive. Lots of souvenir things you can grab as well… shirts, hats, etc. Great location with parking available in their lots. Right on the water, so the view is really nice as well. There was an outside bar in a little gazebo that was cute. Good sized deck with outdoor seating. We will definitely be coming back to Iggy’s or hit up their website, and they will ship ya food and gifts as well!

What a fabulous location, and great food. The cod fish sandwich Was delicious, very reminiscent of English fish-and-chips. To be able to sit and eat it while overlooking the ocean was a Treat, then followed by their homemade ice cream. a great day.
