Iggy’s is a destination because the food is excellent. The menu is short and focused: a handful of appetizers, a half dozen pastas, and variations on soft serve. At our most recent visit, we had a bright salad of local apples and hydroponic greens, complimented by the earthy saltiness of manchego and the crunch of toasted almonds. A great winter salad. The whipped ricotta featuring grilled Dozen bread was also rich, balanced, and delicious.
Between our two Japanese-influenced pastas, I preferred the little shells adorned with peekytoe crab, sea urchin butter, yuzu, and chiles. The rich saltiness of the sea urchin married beautifully with the sweetness of the crab, and we gobbled it all up. The night’s special—mafaldine with pork belly from bear creek farms, garlic and ginger—was tasty and interesting but a little lighter than we were craving on a cold winter night. (We still ate it all.) The huckleberry dessert hit the spot: rich vanilla soft serve, lemon curd, some kind of cake situation. Just a perfect way to finish a big meal.
Iggy’s is also a destination because of the service, among the best we’ve had in Nashville. Jeremy thanked us for returning, though our last visit had been some time ago. A small touch but a meaningful one when the stock question, even at Nashville’s higher-end spots after repeated visits is, “have you dined with us before?” Jeremy was knowledgeable, approachable, and present. He anticipated our needs, demonstrated mastery of the menu and drink list, and helped our meal proceed with perfect timing.
Finally, Iggy’s is a great neighborhood restaurant because it welcomes all comers. The hosts are warm and welcoming. The soundtrack is strange and delightful. The staff are mostly wearing jeans and sneakers, and the diners are a mix of families, girlfriends, couples, and friends. We came once all dolled up after a big occasion. More recently, we arrived in sneakers and many layers seeking sustenance before a cold soccer game. Iggy’s warmly welcomed us in both forms.
Many thanks to the iggy’s crew for a couple of great meals and being perhaps the best place in town for high-end food/service and a down-to-earth vibe.
N.B. If you’re a party of 1-2, the chef’s counter is hard to beat.
We love the area of the restaurant was located and we loved the vibes of the restaurant. It’s a cool unassuming Italian restaurant in a really cool neighborhood.
We were greeted at the door by a kind host. We were promptly seated. We had reservations.
Our number one item is the garlic bread! We couldn’t wait to try it and that was the reason we went there. Our server came by and informed us that they were out of garlic bread lol. It happens. Disappointing for sure but it happens.
They charge an automatic 20% up charge for the tips for their servers. I understand this thinking and actually support it, but you are always afraid that you’re going to get lackluster service because the tip is already included in that is exactly what happened with us. Our server was very low energy, seemingly unhappy. She was not real helpful. We tried to find a solution for the garlic bread like maybe using a different type of bread with some cheese and garlic. She was a little short with us and not very pleasant.
It was a bad start. Low energy lackluster approach maintained the entire meal.
We ordered a couple appetizers. The ceviche wasn’t quite ready when they served it. The shrimp was still a little gray.
The ricotta appetizer was tasty. We felt needed salt. We asked for salt and they brought us rock salt that we had to crush with our fork.
We ordered three pastas. The raviolis were absolutely delightful. You could taste a hint of lemon and all of the flavors. The pasta with black truffle was no longer on the menu so we got one with Summer truffle. You couldn’t taste any truffle flavor at all. We all ate a few slices of the truffle to see if we could taste it and it was void of flavor. Kind of disappointing, we love truffle.
The texture of the pasta was near perfect and handmade. There was not a lot that stood out on the other three sauces except the handmade texture.
The price was high, portions small.
It could have been our disappointment in the service, but we didn’t order anything else. We left and went and got some pizza. Ended up being a great night.
I’ll definitely be back at Iggy’s next time I’m in Nashville! In the meantime, you should all go for me (please and thank you.)
That garlic bread????? I taste it in my dreams.
We did have 3 different pastas & ordered another round of the rigatoni because it was THAT GOOD.
Bartenders were fantastic, cocktails were refreshing and clearly thoughtfully crafted.
Compliments to the chef who created an experience that makes me want to travel back to Nashville just for the food here!
Iggy’s is definitely worth a visit for great food and a laid-back vibe.
