What a killer sandwich!!! Primo’s on Focaccia is a whole other level of delicious. Perfectly cooked chicken cutlet delivered on perfect crispy-yet-soft bread. Arugula salad is generous but not overpowering. Swung by after some library programming on a Saturday and wound up waiting maybe 50 minutes from line to sandwich in hand. I arrived around 1220, not sure if you could spike a better spot if you show up around 1145 or so. Enormous sandwich, ginger beer + tip came out to around $25, but half of this beast would have been plenty, so the value is there. Interesting little spread of delicacies inside as well (tinned seafood, pannetone, noodles), I decided to avoid the brown butter chocolate chip cookie (next time!) although supposedly garlic potato chips are also available?
Yes, it’s a like, and yes it’s a wait, but try for yourself. They’re making it happen, and if you check their socials, also working on scaling up a little (!!!!). I’ll certainly be back!

I drive an hour and a half to try this place- it’s a quiet mom and pop shop with outdoor seating- they were out of eggplant and I got the last hoagie bread- it was only 1:30??? I got the Italian meat sandwich on there last hoagie roll- it didn’t disappoint- bread had a great crunch/ perfect amount of pepperocini- my daughter in law got the chicken cutlets- broccoli rabe and provolone cheese- on focaccia- the bread and cutlet were amazing- it needs some balsamic glaze or roast ed red peppers to counter the rabe…. But still great!
Home made chips are awesome
Staff friends- bathroom clean- will definitely come back!!

I never thought I’d actually get the chance to come here. They’re only open from 12 to 3, and the two times I tried before, the line was out the door and I just couldn’t bring myself to wait. But two days ago, on Friday, I finally decided to give it a shot and stand in line.
I tried Uncle Primo’s Chicken Cutlet and the Harlem Chopped Cheese and both were excellent. The chicken cutlet was amazing. It was perfectly cooked, with a sauce that had this vinaigrette like flavor that worked perfectly with the sandwich. The peppers and arugula added a great touch, and the bread was incredible really good as it was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside.
The chopped cheese was just as good. The meat was super flavorful, and the peppers gave it this really unique and delicious taste.
Service was good and the prices aren’t bad at all for what they give you.
My final thoughts are that it’s definitely tough to get food here because of the limited hours and the long lines though. In their defense, I spent more time in the line then waiting for my food so they are at least efficient. The food was amazing though. One of the best I’ve had in Durham for sure.

It’s so good!!!! So fabulous and full of flavors that I don’t understand how I just learned about this place but I’m so glad I did!! I only ate half of my sandwich but I can’t wait for leftovers. You can’t beat the chicken cutlet! My new favorite spot in town.

I was going to gatekeep this place because it’s already line down the block packed!! But i just couldn’t the Harlem chop cheese on a homemade hoagie bread seasoned and cooked to perfection….& the homemade garlic & onion chips amazing how can a chip be crispy & melt in your mouth at the same time??. You gotta try this cute place!!! At Ideals Sandwich & Grocery with frozen take away meals & wine, IPA’s and pastas. It reminds of an Italian neighborhood grocery store like I’ve seen in Venice Italy

Totally recommend this place! I waited in line around 11:45 and it took about 40 minutes to get my sandwiches, but it was totally worth it. The Uncle Primo’s chicken cutlet and Harlem chopped cheese were both amazing! They also sell guanciale! I’ll definitely come back again!

Easily one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Lives up to the hype. The specials are always out of this world, and the Uncle Primo’s never disappoints. Somehow they manage to keep the long line moving while being friendly. If you’re in Durham, give this a try.

This is the best kind of hole in the wall sandwich shop. There’s a line out the door because there’s no room inside. Take out only with a few seats outside. It’s cramped and crowded and noisy because everything is made fresh to order. However, the sandwiches are amazing! High quality and value. Taste is off the charts. This is one of the best of Durham lunch spots. Highly recommend.

Uncle primos chicken cutlet on focaccia is incredible, probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had! My sister also really likes the fried eggplant and ricotta. The portions are huge and you can make 2 lunches out of a focaccia sandwich. There’s always been a long line when I’ve gone but it’s worth it!

If you like to wait in line 45 minutes for a ok sandwich, this place is ok. First time there, ordered 4 sandwiches and liked one. Don’t understand the hype about this place. Rolls left open where customers stay and breath, sneeze on them. A health department nightmare.
