This was my first time back at Ichiban in years because I saw they had a new Happy Hour menu. I absolutely loved it. Was affordable, fresh, and delicious. Got some apps and sushi rolls and we loved it all. We will be back we love this happy hour!!

️ Decent but pushy – mid-tier experience.

We stopped in and were seated quickly with a table for four, which was a good start. The place operates with a shared-table vibe, so we were asked to leave space in case others joined—which we were fine with, as that’s how the system works.

What threw things off was the service approach. From the start, water wasn’t offered—instead, there was a push to order paid drinks right away, which felt a bit aggressive. The same energy carried over when ordering food. There was pressure to order entrees for the entire table, including the kids, even though we were clear on wanting to share.

We ended up ordering two entrees—the salmon and the chicken and shrimp combo. The food itself wasn’t bad, but overall the experience felt more about upselling than hospitality.

Quick seating and decent food, but the pushy service made the meal feel transactional. Not bad, but not somewhere I’m rushing back to.

This is unacceptable. I don’t know if this was appropriate or an accident, but either way, they ruined my food. I opened the stapled bag and found gum on my food. It disgusted me so much that I had to throw it away. I will never return to this restaurant, and it’s a shame because I really liked it.

P The food is certainly not authentic Japanese and the sushi is maybe like imitation at best. It is not fresh. It is not actually that good at all in any way shape or form of quality and they are certainly not Japanese. It’s Chinese run and it was extremely expensive by far the most expensive sushi restaurant in Ocean and Monmouth county. I highly would never recommend anyone going here. It is horrible. I threw up multiple times. I tried to get a refund and they didn’t give me one and it was just not a good experience at all. I will never be returning here. They will never be getting my business.

Our family has been patrons for many years. Mainly pickup. Always very attentive, kind, and meticulous fast service. The food is always delicious, mindfully crafted with care and love. The owner is a terrific person. Pleasure to interact with. Much love to Ichiban. God Bless.

I attended Ichiban with my daughter for a late dinner on Sunday.

Food was good. All entrees served were tasty and prepared properly.

The service however, was horrible.
The server began by TELLING me that if more people came I had to move. There are many ways of saying this without being rude, but the server was very direct and aggressive about this policy.
I overheard a server at the next table, kindly suggesting that guests might have to move if more people showed up, which was a great way to explain that policy.
The cook came out and his flair and tricks with the food were very minimal, but the food tasted great.
At the end of the meal my daughter asked to go to the bathroom and they told me the bathroom wasn’t working and we would have to go to Applebees next door!

So we went to Applebees and noticed the server was staring at us the entire time we walked. When I got back to Ichiban she was still staring at us as if we were trying to walk out. When she noticed we came back in she abruptly turned around and walked away.

Once we received the check we saw there was gratuity added to the check! I explained we were only a party of 2 and we shouldn’t be charged gratuity. Another server explained since we got hibachi with OTHER people at the same table, we had to pay gratuity.

I do not mind paying gratuity… if it came with good service and ammenities within the restaurant. Needless to say, I will NEVER be visiting Ichiban again.

Ichiban Hibachi dinner is excellent! The servers are fabulous…so attentive. Never have to ask for a drink refill, they always come and ask first. The meals so good with always enough to take home. Love the filet mignon. The noodles and rice are superb and I just LOVE the Yum Yum sauce.

Stopped in on a cold, snowy, Monday night. Sat at the back bar and had a bottle of their Pino Grigio, Spicy Tuna Roll, Tuna Roll, Philadelphia Roll, and a California roll. Everything was amazing! Staff was super friendly, wine was decent, we will definitely be back!

Quality food, quality care, quality service.
Typically I try to order before “close to closing” time.
Tonight I ordered “20 mins to close”

Concerned about the time and quality of the food I originally hesitated.

However, the food was FANTASTIC! FRESH! DELICIOUS!

The quality and attention to detail even at the constraint to time, shows the staff cares about their cuisine and their culture. They go and they execute with freshness and passion.

Shoutout to closing staff on 9/14/2025.

You have earned yourselves a lifelong customer because you are amazing. Thank you!
