Chirashi set was a bit of a hit and miss – salmon, scallop, uni/ikura all tasted great. The uni was from the east coast and was surprisingly fresh. But other pieces didn’t really stand out. And what was a bit disappointing for me was the rice – sushi rice should have some stickiness, but the rice for this chirashi wasn’t, and it fell apart when you tried to scoop it from the bowl. Also, maybe because we didn’t rush to finish the entire set, but the rice started getting hard as we finished the set.
Another dish we ordered was the grilled miso black cod (gindara), which was also highly recommended by the wait staff. This is a simple but classic Japanese home style dish, and as long as the fish is fresh, it’s a hard dish to mess up. But the black cod today had a fishy after taste which was really disappointing
Overall a bit of a hit and miss. The location is pretty good though and I think the view would be really nice during warmer days. Not a bad place to try if you’re in the area, but not worth going out of your way to visit.
Tried to book a spot, only to find they don’t take solo reservations. What a pity. Came by today as a walk-in and luckily got seated.
When the nine-compartment tray arrived, I realized it’s definitely not meant for one person to finish.
Every item was beautifully prepared and fresh. Taste-wise, this is easily among the best Japanese spots I’ve tried in Seattle (reference points: Shiro’s, Umi, Momiji, Sushi Kashiba, Gyo Gyo En, Sushi Katsu-ya, Japonessa, Maneki, and Sushi Ave).
They even serve miso soup with chopsticks instead of a spoon, authentically Japanese. Also, it’s not one of those “mostly maki roll” Japanese places that’s often seen in the U.S.
About 2 to 3 months ago, we ordered omakase and were served multiple incorrect dishes. The staff didn’t acknowledge the mistakes or offer an apology. One dish, a tofu dish in sauce, was served with the spoon still in it. It felt like it came straight from the kitchen prep table without any care. We also had to ask for water refills three to five times before anyone finally responded. The experience felt lazy and unprofessional.
Today’s visit was even worse. We walked in and were completely ignored. No greeting, no acknowledgment. When I calmly said that the service felt rude, Jay, the manager, came out and told us we were not welcome at the restaurant.
Being spoken to like that after years of being a loyal customer is absolutely unacceptable. This place has declined in both food quality and hospitality. No customer should be treated this way.
The sushi was incredibly fresh and flavorful, each bite was a delight. The setting by the lake made for a peaceful and enjoyable dining experience. Perfect for a casual lunch or a special dinner. I’ll definitely be coming back!
