The food was old and did not taste good. The employee working Chinese counter told us if we wanted fresh food we should have come in around 5pm. The cashier, different person, then says the the reason the food was so bad was because of corporate and that “that’s why I don’t even eat here”. We were there before 7pm. All of the tables were dirty and trash over flowing. I don’t think I saw any employees that cared.

Over the last 2 years, the quality of this Hy-Vee’s chinese counter has gotten worse and worse. They just don’t care anymore. When I talked to a manager this evening (Chris), he told me another manager named Chris oversees the Market Grill (including the chinese counter) but he works in the mornings. There is literally no manager running the hot food service in the evenings.

30 minutes until close with no cook…. had to get husband something else than what he planned on and wanted. If the hours are 11 to 8, then a cook or two (you know for breaks and other duties) need to be scheduled for that time.

Love the Chinese at Hyvee and highly recommend it. However, there seems to be confusion among the workers as to how the #1/#2 works. #1 is one entree. #2 is two entrees. Does a #1 mean 1 type of entree (eg Orange Chicken) or does it mean only 1 cubby gets filled with Orange chicken? Some workers only fill one cubby if you get a #1. Some workers fill both cubbies if you get a #1 and get only 1 entree type, eg sesame chicken for both. I’ve been told that a #1 means only one type of entree, and logically I can see how employees get confused and think it means only 1 cubby gets filled.

First and foremost it’s great value and very good. At a time when the world has been more challenging due to COVID-19 and inflation the food is well flavored at a reasonable price. You can try a lil sample before you buy. So if you think you got a bad deal it’s on you. With all the following things considered . I don’t see how you can go wrong. I hope this helps.
