Highway 55 is always a delight! Good food, music(life is an highway did play lol and we sang along as a group), and many many memories! I really enjoyed the fact that they had a screen where anybody could import Photos onto a bank that would play on the screens there. It was a great touch and it’s always fun to see friends who were previously there. The fries and burgers are great! The kids meal cars are great also, giving kids a great chance to learn more about muscle cars. I do remember one night in December when me and my dad coming in all heck seemed to break loose, but it was funny and it joined my list of good memories.

Good things, like a large fry shared between a group of people, must come to an end. But the memories made around those Highway 55 tables, will never end.

1000% recommend btw! Have a good day and thanks for reading!!! Hopefully your day is a bright and amazing, like you the reader is!

As a country mom of four living in Clayton, North Carolina, I can tell you right now that finding a restaurant everyone agrees on is nothing short of a miracle. Between one kid who only eats chicken tenders, another who thinks ketchup is “too spicy,” a teenager who’s “bulking,” and a toddler who survives on fries and vibes, eating out can feel like a full-contact sport. But somehow, some way, Highway 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries has become our go-to spot.

Now if you’re from around here, you know Clayton is growing fast. We’re just outside Raleigh, and every five minutes it feels like another neighborhood pops up. But even with all the new places coming in, Highway 55 still feels like home. It’s got that small-town, Friday-night-lights kind of feeling. You walk in and half the time you see somebody you know from church, baseball practice, or the grocery store.

First of all, let’s talk atmosphere. This place is set up like a 1950s diner, and I absolutely love it. The red booths, black-and-white checkered floors, the old-school signs on the walls — it’s just wholesome. It feels safe. It feels clean. And as a mom, clean matters. When you’ve got four kids touching everything within reach, you notice these things.

The staff at our Clayton location? Sweet as sweet tea. They’re patient. And let me tell you, patience is a spiritual gift when you’re taking orders from my crew. “I want a cheeseburger but no cheese.” “I want the kids meal but can I swap the side and the drink and also the toy?” Bless these workers. They smile through it.

Now let’s get to the food because that’s what really counts.

The burgers? Fresh, hot, and made-to-order. You can actually taste the difference. They’re juicy without being greasy, and they don’t fall apart halfway through like some fast-food burgers do. My husband always gets the classic cheeseburger with fries, and he swears it’s better than the big-name chains. My oldest son orders a double because apparently he’s “building muscle.” Sure, honey.

And the fries. Oh my word. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside — exactly how fries should be. Not floppy. Not burnt. Just right. My little ones will share a big basket, and it keeps them happy long enough for me to eat at least half of my meal while it’s still warm. That’s a win in mom-world.

Now we have to talk about the chicken tenders because every family has that one child who refuses burgers. Highway 55’s tenders are solid. Crispy coating, tender meat inside, not overly salty. They come out hot, which I appreciate because nothing is worse than lukewarm chicken when you’ve paid good money.

But let’s be honest. The real star of Highway 55 is the milkshakes.

If you have never had one of their hand-spun milkshakes, you are missing out on one of life’s simple joys. Thick, creamy, and made the old-fashioned way. My daughter always gets chocolate. My middle child switches between strawberry and Oreo. And sometimes — just sometimes — I treat myself to a peanut butter shake. And let me tell you, after a long week of school drop-offs, laundry, and trying to keep everybody alive and kind, that milkshake tastes like a reward.

What I love most, though, isn’t just the food. It’s what the place represents.

Highway 55 in Clayton feels like community. It’s where little league teams go after a game. It’s where grandparents take the grandkids. It’s where you can sit in a booth, bow your head, say a quick prayer over your food, and not feel out of place. In a world that moves too fast, it feels steady.

As a mom, I also appreciate that it’s affordable. Feeding six people is not cheap anywhere these days. But Highway 55 doesn’t make me feel like I need to take out a second mortgage just to get burgers and fries. We can go, eat well, maybe splurge on shakes, and still pay the electric bill. That matters.

Five stars from this country mama. ✝️

Very excellent burgers, chicken tenders, and Philly cheese steak. The tots are yum, and the shakes delish.

What I like most of all are the people working at this location. Always a bright smile, making sure to get your order right. They make you feel welcomed.

Oh and the kid’s meals come in a cute classic car box.

It was our first time going to a Hwy 55 location. Our servers name was Tyler and he did an amazing job with our service and made the kids have such a great time they were waving goodbye to him as we left. The food was great, the burgers tasted fresh and the fries / tots were crispy.

The young lady working at the drive thru window today around 12:30 was so so sweet. I was using my birthday reward treat and she upsized it for me without me asking. I appreciate the little acts of kindness in life and wanted to express how much that made me smile. She is an amazing asset to this establishment. I should’ve gotten her name.

The place is small and tight. Food was fair last time I got burger and it tasted as it was steamed not char broiled this time I tried cheesesteak it was fair however I had to slide the meat over to fill up the roll and threw the empty part of the roll out. Hardly any veggies in it. The fries and gravy were good. I’m not so sure about this place now.

Where to start: ordered a pimento and a bacon burger with fries and onion rings at 9 an hour before closing and the service was rushed and rude. When we finally got out food we tried an onion ring and fry before leaving and they were all soggy. Honestly for the $30 we paid it would’ve been better to go to McDonald’s and get some genetically modified meat…. At least the fries would’ve been crispy. Also who doesent put any lettuce, onion, pickle or tomato on any burger?? Not coming back here

This was 1st time, and was very pleased from entering the restaurant. The young lady held the door and greeted myself and my family. I had my 2 young grandsons with my wife and daughter. They waitress offered booster seats for the granbabies. Service was good. It was pretty cool to see a robot delivering the food. Pretty cool. Also had tv screens you can snap pics and they will show up on the screens. I ordered the jalapeño philly steak, was really good with fried. Wife got a Carolina Classic, she said it was good, daughter had a burger she liked and looked really kids a kids tenders and were in a cool cardboard corvette, nice touch. Was very impressed, I hope the food and service stay like it is.
