Very tasty food. I worried it would be too spicy but they let you choose the special level and the regular level is not too bad. Some other reviews complained about the service. It is actually not bad. They have a bar code on the table and you can order, call the waiter, and pay through scanning the code. All supplies are in a drawer under the table. Very efficient! Definitely will go back again.

The food didn’t taste fresh at all, and honestly, it just didn’t taste good. Way overpriced for what you get. Definitely not real Hunan food. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Tried Hu Yi Nan in Irvine recently after hearing a lot about it. The restaurant has been very popular since opening, so we waited a while before coming.
We ordered a few dishes including steamed sea bass, stir-fried pork with chili, dry pot cauliflower, and preserved pork with tea tree mushrooms. The flavors were strong and very aromatic, and you could really taste the wok hei in the stir-fried dishes.
The place was busy the entire time we were there and takeout orders kept coming in. Overall a solid spot if you’re craving bold Hunan flavors.

The steamed sea bass with chopped chili was too salty, and the fish was a bit tough, suggesting it wasn’t fresh enough. The eggplant with peel and green peppers was just average. The stir-fried pork intestines with green peppers, however, were excellent!

It was extremely salty, the service was poor, and the stir-fried dishes were excessively oily.
