At our Chattanooga, TN location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I recently placed an order for food and wore my hoodie because it was cold outside, being December. At this particular Captain D’s location, all of the managers were present and I decided to dine in the lobby like any regular customer. While enjoying my meal, I realized that I needed to charge my phone. One of the managers kindly showed me where I could do so. However, after finishing my lunch break and charging my phone, I was asked to leave the restaurant. It was very rude and unacceptable treatment for a paying customer like myself, who happens to be a businessperson. It is disappointing that after purchasing food at this Captain D’s, I was treated this way without any valid reason. My advice is to avoid eating at this location as the food is also served cold. They seem more concerned about people appearing suspicious than ensuring their food is properly prepared. The managers here have poor skills in assisting customers and this issue needs to be addressed. Simply wanting to eat without being judged should not result in being kicked out of the restaurant. Save yourself from this unpleasant experience by avoiding dining inside this establishment. It’s not worth your time or money.

On Wednesday December 10, 2025 about 9:00 p.m.,I ordered one of their $5.99 special of 1 piece battered dipped fish and 5 butterfly shrimps with fries and a breadstick to replace the husj puppies. After paying for my order, I reminded the cashier that she failed to ask me if I wanted the shrimp for $1.99 so I get the 5 piece for free. The young man put the food on the countertop opens it so I can see if was correct. The shrimp with the main order was golden brown. The 5 (free) piece, was not cooked at the same time and much smaller than the first five that came with my order. I was told that they were cooked a extra five seconds. I clearly could see the difference. I asked for them to cook me some more because I didn’t want them free or not. The returned to the kitchen and tells the manager, I had noticed her in there earlier while my order was being prepared. She told the employee no they would not redo the shrimp and she was not giving away any more free food. The young man then returns to the counter with the shrimp that I refused to tell me she said no. I told him that I wanted to talk with his manager. He returned to the kitchen told her and she proceeds to go into a rant about the store loosing money, people getting free food, and people not doing their jobs. She stated that they didn’t have any more butterfly shrimp and that she couldn’t fulfill my request. She said a few more things after that but then she said that this was the last time. I heard what sounded like a door closing and 2-3 minutes later the young man presented me with a golden brown order of butterfly shrimp. The manager never came to the front to speak with me. In my opinion her behavior was truly unprofessional, even her sipping on a drink while standing in the kitchen window area. Unfortunately, I’d left my telephone in my vehicle so no pictures of the shrimp that I refused to accept (free or not). The fish, shrimp, and breadstick meal was hot and delicious. Maybe it was just the manager going through something, but she could have been more professional jn a few ways… The young lady at the counter and the young man/cook that presented my order to me were wonderful.

Worst experience ever! I love Captain D’s and eat here often. They were out of a lot foods and sauces. The new manager, Lawrence was not accomodating and unwilling to help me with a coupon issue. He would not even apply a manager credit to my order. I told him I would call corporate, he said to me, “Ok that’s fine my name is Lawrence…the line is backed up. Did you want the food or not? “. He treated me like a bother instead of a customer he needed to please. I took the food and got home only to discover my baked fish was partially raw and my tartar sauce that I had to beg for was all over my boxes. I am completely shocked by this experience! I have been eating here for almost 20 years and this was my first job!I can truly say, there was never this kind of service under the direction of former manager, Terry. I hope that Captain D’s gets back to normal.

I went to Captain D’s for my family as I have been at the doctors following a car accident to get surgery scheduled and evaluation and had a very long painful and kind of scary day. I knew I would not feel like cooking and my family loves Captain D’s. We have not been there in a while because it’s kind of out of the way. I stopped in. I had exceptional service. I’m not sure if this employee is a manager or not, but they should be. They’re actually executive quality and I can definitely say that as I am a executive with the federal government, I am on a medical leave and it has been a really rough week for my family, but a gentleman named Joseph gave the most exceptional service of any restaurant I have been to in our town in a long time, he helped me get a drink. I was very tired and having a hard time picking up food the food was fresh. He showed me the food. He packed everything up And he definitely deserves kudos as he makes this restaurant definitely shine. The other employees were amazing as well I did not get to work with them directly while ordering or waiting on the food but if you like Captain D’s, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a visit as you will not be disappointed my family is eating now I’m relaxing. The food is amazing. If I could give it 10 stars I would thank you Joseph and thank you Captain D’s for making my evening, relaxing and giving us exceptional service and perfectly cooked food.
