The food was absolutely delicious — every appetizer, entrée, and side was full of flavor. I couldn’t even pick a favorite because everything we tried was that good.
Another highlight was the lounge area with plenty of board games, which gave the whole evening a fun and inviting vibe.
Highly recommend this spot — I’ll definitely be back!
Our experience at Hunters and Gathers was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We were there for over 2½ hours and only managed to get two drinks — each one taking around 30 minutes to arrive.
I originally ordered the meatloaf based on our server’s recommendation. It came out extremely dry, without any glaze, and was sitting on a bed of dried tomato sauce. I never send food back, but this was inedible, so I did. I decided to reorder the chicken and dumplings, only for the server to come back 30 minutes later to tell me they were out. At that point, I didn’t even bother ordering anything else.
My friends ordered the quarter chicken, which was basically Publix-quality and missing the goat cheese sauce. We had to ask for sides that should have been included. It honestly felt like half the menu was unavailable.
To top it off, we placed a to-go order for a steak with demi-glaze and Brussels sprouts, and even that was wrong — no demi-glaze and no Brussels.
What made it worse was that no one seemed to care. No apology, no attempt to make it right — just bad food, bad service, and a total lack of effort. For the prices and the hype, this place was a huge disappointment. We won’t be back.
Went this past week for dinner. First time here- was excited & hopeful! Dinner was a struggle… we had a reservation but it took 45 mins to even be able to place an order. Food didn’t come out at the same time, dishes were mixed up/things forgotten, drinks not refilled, server didn’t check-in to make sure all was well. Had to get pepper myself from storage wall… including flagging down almost anyone when multiple side dishes were wrong and/or missing or accompaniments like goat cheese weren’t ever included w a dish when it was stated on the menus.
The heavy black curtain that leads into the kitchen seems to be a disaster- our Server bumped into someone coming out as he was going into the kitchen & drinks on his tray spilled out. There was a major struggle this night- noticeable on most of the staff and I felt for them… but I still had to pay regular price for a massively missed-the-mark, less than ideal meal that included a family of 5. The reservation didn’t help us at all… and we never even were offered dessert- not that we’d have been able to linger any longer. The whole dinner was awkward and I noticed multiple tables looked pained, like I felt, as if we’d been captured and were being held against our will. We just wanted to get out of there- had to even flag someone random down for the check & we didn’t even receive the correct check.
The bartender was the only one who seemed super cool despite the dumpster fire all around him. He had to walk drinks to table and help carry out dishes…. I hope this all works out for them. So much potential here and I honestly wish them the best & that they can find adequate staffing very soon… would love to see this place thrive & hang in for the long haul!!
We tried the Chicken and Dumplings with carrots and Brussel Sprouts, the Beef Stew and salad and the Buffalo Chicken Skillet.
Everything was just…..better. You may want to consider this place for your special somethings.
My Hubby and I decided to try it on one of the busiest days of the year Valentine’s, and we could not have picked a better place.
First off, do yourself a favor and make reservations so your wait isn’t long.
We got there 15 minutes before our reservations and were sat right around the time of our reservation. They gave us the best seat in the house right by the waterfall glass window. The place is romantic and cozy. The service was perfect and everything was well timed. We started with the Buffalo Chicken Dip. We loved it. Publix makes something similar but this was by far the best! It was so good we finished all of it. We ordered our meals and didn’t have to wait long at all. The food presentation was beautiful. My Short rib was fall off the bone good. My Hubby ordered the Shrimp and Grits. He loved it but was second guessing his meal choice after I gave him some of my dinner to try. Dinner went so well we lost track of time and were there for about 1 1/2 hours. We would have stayed longer but didn’t want to mess up the reservations since it was Valentine’s.
All in all…My friend who lives in Austin Texas was able to find this awesome, unique restaurant and so can you!
Try it…you just might love it!!
Fantastic atmosphere and food that stimulate all of the senses. An amazing amount of micro details are put into this restaurant. I came here for the first time today for brunch and I was not let down. Cozy and relaxed environment surrounds you with little dabbles in the “Hunter” and “Gather” from the wall paper to the woodwork and pictures. The service was great with our waitress being on point and our food and drinks coming right up.
Price for value was on par with the delicious and unique offerings so delicious!
I had the crab cake and woah was I blown away. So delicious. As a side I had the Brie Grits and again the flavors were astounding.
We will definitely be back on the regular
Pictured is the stuffed mushrooms, tuna wontons, cool as a cuke cocktail, maize runner cocktail (get this!!) and the spiked and spicy. Happy hour is amazing- relax on a comfy couch and enjoy the company!
