We came from two hours away to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
The food was absolutely delicious!
Seasoned to perfection! Literally chef’s kiss!
Our server (if I remember correctly, her name was Jamie) was accommodating, polite, pleasant and professional.

Our only complaint was that it was a little cold in the establishment.
After some time our food got cold due to the temperature of the facility.

Other than that, it was fantastic!
We’ll be back☺️

We came to have dinner with the family. My husband had been wanting seafood for a while. We were not disappointed. The food was so good, the flavors were amazing! I love that they had a variety of flavors/seasonings and spice levels to choose from. I personally got the headless shrimp boil 2 lbs and it came with corn and potatoes. I opted for garlic butter and mild. Sooo good! I recommend you give them a try!!!

The cooking is authentic and tasty, and the portions are generous. The service is warm and attentive, the food comes out quickly, and the staff are friendly and thoughtful. The environment is clean and comfortable with great value. Highly recommended for meals and gatherings—I’ll definitely come back!

⭐☆☆☆☆ One-Star Review – Unprofessional Conduct That Completely Ruined Our Evening
This review reflects my personal experience during a visit to The Hunter Crab.
After being seated, my wife and I waited an extended period before our main order was even taken. During this time, multiple tables that arrived and were seated after us were able to order and receive their food before we were given the opportunity to place our main order, which immediately set a negative tone.
Our appetizer (crab cakes) and drinks arrived in reasonable time, but the issues escalated with the main courses.
My wife ordered two clusters of snow crab legs at medium spiciness. When the dish arrived, an entire claw was missing. The plate was taken back and replaced with food that was not what was originally ordered. Instead of medium, it was significantly spicier and caused discomfort when eaten. We have ordered this same dish here before and are familiar with its normal spice level.
I ordered the catfish basket with Cajun fries. The fish was extremely hot when served, so I waited before eating it. When I did, it was overcooked in my opinion, rubbery in texture, and the batter separated in large chunks.
My wife attempted to speak with a manager but was told no manager was on the premises. A bartender stated the meals could be remade and the bill discounted. Before that could happen, another male employee was brought to our table, and this is where the experience became unacceptable.
Rather than listening or attempting to resolve the situation, this employee immediately became combative, argumentative, and dismissive. He repeatedly told my wife she was wrong about the spice level and insisted the food was correct, even after she explained it burned her mouth. His tone was confrontational and unprofessional.
When he addressed me, the same behavior continued. I calmly explained the problems with my meal, and he dismissed everything I said, repeatedly insisting the food was great and implying that our experience was incorrect. At no point did he attempt to de-escalate, apologize, or show concern for the customer experience. His focus appeared to be on arguing rather than resolving the issue.
Throughout this interaction, I was clearly wearing a combat veteran hat. This restaurant does offer a military discount, and it has been provided to us during prior visits. However, during this visit it was never offered or mentioned at any point, which stood out given the circumstances.
At no point did we ask for free food. I stated clearly that I did not want my meal remade and simply wanted to pay and leave. As the employee continued to argue, I stood up to proceed to the register so we could exit.
Despite no threats, no physical contact, and no aggressive actions on my part, law enforcement was called, which escalated the situation unnecessarily. When I began recording for my own documentation, the officers’ behavior and attempts to block the phone felt intimidating to me, adding further stress.
What made this especially upsetting was that the combined behavior of the employee and the officers made it feel as though we would not be allowed to leave unless we paid the full bill, despite everything that had occurred. In that moment, it felt as though disputing the charges or seeking further resolution could lead to further detention or arrest, which was extremely uncomfortable.
What should have been an enjoyable date night turned into an overwhelming sense of disappointment. The lack of professionalism, absence of management, hostile employee behavior, and unnecessary escalation completely ruined our evening. We left frustrated, uncomfortable, and stressed, having paid full price with no meaningful resolution or recourse offered for the issues we experienced.
This was not simply about food quality—it was about how customers were treated. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend dining here.

Hunter Crab absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, clean, and lively without being overwhelming. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal.

The seafood was outstanding — fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked exactly right. The crab legs were tender and easy to crack, packed with flavor and not overcooked. The boil seasoning had the perfect balance of spice, garlic, and butter. Every bite tasted fresh and high quality. The shrimp were plump, the corn and potatoes were seasoned thoroughly, and nothing felt rushed or thrown together.

Portion sizes were generous, and everything came out hot. You can tell they take pride in consistency and quality control. Even the presentation was clean and well-prepared.

If you’re looking for a solid seafood boil spot with great flavor, good portions, and excellent service, Hunter Crab delivers. Definitely coming back.

Pictures don’t do this place justice.. we are from out of town, and were seeking new places to try for our stay in LA this week. One of our friends recommended the seafood boil from Hunter Crab. I was a bit hesitant because I’m not much of a seafoodie myself, but I went anyways for the experience. Let me just say this.. I will be back!! The service was excellent, it wasn’t too crowded, and I didn’t have one nasty item that we didn’t like!! We branched out and tried different foods as well… our appetizers came out so hot that we had to wait on it to cool off. Our drinks were refilled when needed, and the food had so much flavor!! We really enjoyed the beignets as well. I will definitely eat seafood from here again!!

The garlic butter oysters, frog legs, boil, and beignets were superior!! Chefs kiss see you next time! -a fellow NC native who truly enjoyed the seafood experience here!

When we arrived we were sitting for about 10 minutes before a server (not ours) asked if we’ve been helped and she took our drink orders for us. (Gave her grace because its a busy Sunday night,) When our server Kalea finally came we ordered and the food came out quickly. The food itself was mid. I ordered a small cluster of snow crab, half a pound of shrimp headless and half a pound of sausage. The only thing I liked was the shrimp and the potatoes it came with and my boyfriend ordered the same thing with the dungess crab and he didnt even finish his food, he did not like any part of it, I was disappointed having this be my first seafood boil. Not to mention we sat for I kid you not 25-30 minutes waiting for our server just to get the bill and leave. The atmosphere was loud and very overstimulating. Overall not a pleasant experience.

Update: less than 24 hours after we ate we both got food poisoning. Been having the chills all night and throwing up. Do not eat there. I went through the reviews and we aren’t the only ones who have gotten sick from there.

We came here for some seafood as we wanted something from somewhere we haven’t been. They did not disappoint! We came on a Sunday evening and they weren’t busy. This would be a great place to watch sports as they have a large screen for live games & serve alcohol. There was a dress code sign, which is nice especially if you have kids & you don’t want to see people half-naked. Our waitress, Jesse was great. Very informative about the menu, seasoning, & attentive to our requests. I ordered a 1lb headless boiled shrimp & 2 fried cod a la carte. The cod was seasoned nicely & very delicious. The shrimp were very large & boiled perfect, seasoning was tasty without a kick as I chose mild. My wife got a Bayside pan with medium seasoning. She said everything was cooked perfect & she could taste the seasoning with a slight kick to it. She enjoyed her food. We didn’t try any alcohol drinks but will definitely try next time. We sat fairly close to the Tv & it was a bit loud; maybe place speakers in the back as to even out the volume throughout the restaurant. Overall we had a great experience & would suggest this restaurant to anybody.
