I was very excited to try this place out when I saw they had some classic American Chinese dishes along with some more traditional Chinese dishes as well. A little sad that the dandan noodles were not what I was expecting. I’m a little bit of a classical Szechuan style version. That’s got Szechuan peppercorns minced pork, preserved vegetables, baby bok choy, in a spicy type sauce with peanuts on top. This to me just tastes a sweet peanut butter and nothing really spicy at all without any pork either. It was a little underwhelmed with this. I love my spice. I love the Szechuan peppercorns cuz I buy them regularly from the local Asian grocery stores as well as traveling around for more traditional authentic style Chinese foods across the US along in Canada as well. So this one just threw me for a loop. I know if sometimes they can use it creamy peanut butter sauce in the more modern version, but I was hoping this would have been a classical style. Overall though I would come back but probably would not order this dish again. Unfortunately. I’ve never been too big of a fan of peanut style sauces unfortunately. I do miss the numbing sensation from the peppercorns that they provide in the heat. I did add in the chili oil that was provided to me. I used two containers worth, but miss the numbing side of it. Overall though the restaurant staff, the restaurant itself all clean and very friendly. I would definitely come back again with her mom because she doesn’t do spicy, but she’s also more of an American Chinese style person as well. So I will definitely come back just so that she can enjoy the great food as well.

Been ordering here for years. Delivery is crazy fast and reliable. Most dishes are ok. However, note that they serve chow mein with no noodles… Which is odd considering “chow mein” means “fried noodles.” Buyer beware, ask before you order!

The Lo mein was just right. The beef tastes good but the beef itself is a bit salty for me. The soup is good overall but has too much of a soy sauce taste to me.

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 25 years and have found their crispy beef is the best in all of Fairfax. Yes, that is a hill I will die on. (It got so bad trying to find other good crispy beef, i had called another restaurant back asking why my crispy beef was soggy and the lady proceeded to try to tell me that crispy beef “shouldn’t be crispy” when it’s in the name.) Anyways, I digress because it’s all about Hunan West. The quality at Hunan west has always been fantastic, the wait staff is very knowledgeable, and the food comes out quick and piping hot. It is pricey, but with inflation what restaurant isn’t? Sometimes though, I feel like I should be more adventurous with their menu, but if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Crispy beef crispy beef crispy beef. Need I say again? Try their crispy beef.

Let me explain. This is not a regular stop for me. But when I crave, they come on my radar. But it seems that they don’t have many diners is always empty. And the bartender is always practically begging you to stay or come back. Eat in which I understand that’s a lot of space and tables for nobody to be in there. And two doors down, they sitting outside eating having the ball. But most people get it to go. I guess I aint never seen nobody inside. Keep trying your food is okay. Your service is quick.

I just received the best delivery Peking Duck. Very generous sized duck half, 6 pancakes (most places give 4), lots of green onions, matchstick cucumbers, 2 tubs of sauce. All for $30 with discounts. And it was very good!
