You don’t plan your best meals. They happen when you’re hungry, tired, and stumble into some place with fogged-up windows and a small crowd that clearly knows better than Yelp. That’s how I ended up at Hunan Deli — a fluorescent-lit joint promising Korean Chinese comfort food. And man, did it deliver.First clue: there was a wait. Always a good sign. The tiny dining room buzzed with a mix of Koreans and locals — people who looked like they knew exactly what they were here for. The service? Chaotic. Staff flying between tables, orders shouted across the room. Plates came when they came. But that’s how you know this isn’t a place concerned with hospitality theater. Here, the food is the show. The noodles arrived steaming and chewy — the kind of texture that tells you someone actually cares about the dough. The sweet and sour pork was crisp perfection, lacquered in a sauce that walked that thin line between tangy and sweet without losing itself. The jjajangmyeon? Earthy, satisfying, not cloying. And the seafood soup — an angry red swirl of spice and shellfish — came loaded like a fisherman’s breakfast after a hard night. This isn’t fine dining. It’s the kind of place that exists because somebody’s mom and dad believed good food was enough to keep the lights on. And they’re right. Hunan Deli doesn’t need polish — it’s got soul.

Wow, food here is authentic, Korean food for Koreans. I actually had reservations about coming because the name started with Hunan Deli and it seemed like their menu was too broad but everything we ordered was solid and authentic. We ordered dishes that are popular in Korea but we never get to see on most Korean restaurant menus in the US like Dongtae Tang and BudaeJjugae and they were both good. We also saw Chinese Korean dishes ordered by tables nearby and they looked great too. In general, it’s hard to find a good Korean restaurant that does good soups and stews (or anything besides AYCE BBQ) and this one is a solid hit.

Used to drive to Annandale to have Korean foods, but we found Hunan Deli restaurant which a a local restaurant but their foods are way better than those in Annandale. If you order a Chinese dishes, they are Chinese taste. If you order Korean dishes, they are Korean dishes. How amazing they handle both Korean and Chinese that are not mixed up. It is amazing. And when I saw many Korean people come here for dinner, I knew I came to the right place. The owners and servers were friendly, Korean friendliness. They made me feel like I was in a restaurant in South Korea. Last but not least, the prices were way cheaper than in Annandale while the portion was the same. This restaurant is one of my favorite spots now.

Glad we came here for some Korean food, delicious, and the staff very friendly. Miss having some homemade Korean food. And they serve very large portions for the price, go hungry!

I always passed this place on my way home and decided to see what it was about. I am glad to look it up, I did a pick up order and everything went well. I got the Chinese sweet and sour pork and a side of rice. I almost left when the front of house called me telling me I forgot the sauce. No other restaurant has ever done that. I also got sides of cabbage and cucumber kimchi.
The service was quick and very friendly. This restaurant made me remember my time in Korea. I will definitely be back.

Hunan Deli has three different types of food cuisine: Chinese, American Chinese, and Korean. Besides this unique quality, they have four different Korean squid dishes to try on their menu. I wanted to try a Korean squid dishes I had a long time ago yet I ordered the wrong one. I ordered Ojingeo Deopbap – 오징어 덮밥 , marinated squid with cabbage & rice instead of Ojingeo bokkeum (오징어 볶음) a spicy stir-fried squid dish. It was still very good to eat but not the dish I preferred more.
My takeout came with side dishes to sample also known as Banchan 반찬 and miso soup. I loved that they added these side dishes and the white rice with my entree was good.
Prices were fair. Service was friendly despite some difficulty in communication. The ambiance was simple and seemed like a takeout place more than a restaurant. I definitely want to try more entrees there in the future.

20230411 5th time here…yummmm I’m stuffed!
This is my 3rd time here in the past few years. I ordered the spicy seafood noodles soup and it was good but I had better. The 2nd time my friend picked up seafood fried rice, it was not good at all. I stopped in to give it another try, and ordered the stone pot bibimba, and it was good but need the red sauce or some salt. I like this dish the best because it has different types of veggies and just the right amount of meat. I’m not a meat eater and prefer small portions. If you like a lot of meat, this dish is not going to be satisfying. The stone pot dishes are the best because of flavor from the stone pot, and the stone pot keeps the food hot. Recommend ordering from the Korean menu. Service is great. They are very welcoming unlike most of the Korean restaurants I’ve been to. I like the little cold dishes served as soon as I sat down. When I finished one of the small dishes, the nice lady replaced it with another. I like and prefer supporting small businesses. Covid impacted the small businesses because they don’t have politicians ensuring them that they will make a profit during challenging times. Please consider supporting small businesses if you can.

If you love Korean food and Chinese food, then you come to the right place. This is a small hole in the wall restaurant that serves excellent food. It reminded me of the little side restaurants in Korea where you can get a good home cooked meal. After leaving Korea, part of this dining experience left me as well. Finding a great authentic restaurant like this in the Ft Belvoir area is not easy to come by. The place is small with limited seating, so check before coming by. The food was outstanding, and we will be back for more.

The Gan Ji Jang with pork was so savory and delicious! There was so much noodles and sauce it was definitely worth the price! The Tang Su Yuk with chicken hit the spot. The chicken was crispy and hot from the kitchen. The sauce was thick and coated the chicken and veggies very well. We will definitely be back to try more items from the menu! The staff were extremely kind and welcoming and the restaurant might be small but it has a cozy atmosphere and is very welcoming!

Haven’t been to Hunan Deli in a while, but after a disappointing Korean meal in Annandale, I decided to give them a go. Ordered a small Khan Pung Sal (boneless fried chicken thighs in sweet and spicy sauce). Crispy like karaage, so it holds up to the sauce, which made me break a Sichuan numbing pepper sweat. If you like it spicy, they will not disappoint. I ordered a small, but could barely finish half. I imagine a large would feed a family of four. I’d skip the American Chinese menu and go for the Korean or the Korean Chinese options. With the weather getting cooler, there’s plenty of hot, spicy soups on the menu, and their wings are better than Bonchon. Plenty of Korean customers and military who probably were stationed in Korean and got a taste for the food. Highly recommended.
