I called about callaloo. It was made for me. I really enjoyed the food. The rum cake is so very light and delicious. The natural juices taste different from the bottles. They are so good that I had two. It was worth the drive. I will return to eat there again. Louis Louis is the owner, and he is so accommodating. I love this place. I ordered stir fry and Jerk dinners for my parents. I’m going to try more menu items. Greens and yams, cabbage, and plantain are all so very good. I love the rice and peas. You can make your food as spicy as you please with the sauce on the side. The chicken is so flavorful that it doesn’t need sauce.

Here’s the story: We found an online coupon for this Jamaican restaurant. Since we’d never eaten Jamaican food, and since we are on occasion adventurous, we decided to try it. At first, they were surprised by the coupon, but finally accepted it. She had jerk chicken; I had goat curry. We were both blown away by the food. I have eaten in Ghana and was strongly reminded of that experience in both flavor and spicy heat. The fried plantains were excellent. She also had a ginger beer, made fresh in the store, and loved it. If palm wine had been available, I really would have thought I was in West Africa!

I was really excited about trying this place, since I’ve heard so many good things. To start I placed my order over the phone and was given a 20 minute window. When I arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes later i began to push the bell and stood there long enough to have to push the bell three times with still no response. While standing on the inside I had to call the restaurant in order for someone to answer the phone to let them know that I was in the front waiting on my order that was actually sitting behind the counter the young lady informed me that she will be coming right up. 2 minutes later she finally comes to the front takes my money gives me my food. I return home thinking that I would enjoy my meal but the rice was extremely salty and the chicken was dry. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

I’ve been coming here for years and no other jerk compares for me. Their rice & peas are it! Period. The service is polite but don’t come in there playing with them. Lol. Love this place all other jerk restaurants are 2 & 3rd rated. Hummingbird is Authentic.

First time in Chicago and decided to stop for some Jamaican food and came across this place through Google. Stopped by and this place was empty and had a bunch of art of the wall. This is when I knew it’s about to be fire. The owner Louie Louie wasn’t in the front even more of a sign that food about to be lit. He came out with a bright smile to greet my mom and I and we spoke for a little before we had some bomb curry goat. He was so nice. He gave us some extra food that we didn’t know he had and we were pleasantly surprised. At the end he packed us some jerk chicken and here we are in a different state eating it for breakfast and let me tell you I am not disappointed again. Jerk is nicely seasoned with dry jerk ingredients and some wet sauce to the side. Next time I’m in Chicago for a longer stay I will return. Thanks for giving us the Jamaican experience in Chicago of all places.
