I ordered the combo fajitas, and while they weren’t bad, they didn’t quite stand out either—solidly average. The chips and salsa followed suit—fine, but nothing that left a lasting impression. The real highlight, though, was the service. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made for an enjoyable dining experience.
While Hugo’s might not have wowed us on this visit, it’s definitely worth checking out to see if it’s your style. With so much competition in the area, I’m not sure it will become one of our regular spots, but for those who love exploring new restaurants, it’s worth a try!
I had the Mini Tacos which were far from mini and tasted outstanding – wife had the Chicken Breast which must have come from an enormous chicken.
The chips were fresh & the salsa was great.
Thank You for a Great Meal at Fair Prices !!
My husband and I came in for happy hour and ordered margaritas specifically because the menu lists them at $8.99 with $2 off meaning $6.99. He even said in front of the waitress, “Oh wow, $2 off margaritas, let’s do it!”
Our server was new, which we completely understood. She was doing her best, and we had no complaints with her. The problem began when our check showed $11.59 per margarita, which is higher than the regular price even before the happy hour discount.
When we asked about it, the server checked with the manager and came back saying we were charged for large margaritas. We never asked for large, we asked for the happy hour margarita.
I requested to speak with the manager. She came to the table, but instead of listening or trying to understand the situation, she immediately placed the blame on us. She insisted we had to pay for the large size and repeatedly said she couldn’t do anything since we “already drank them.”
I explained — more than once — that this was clearly a staff training mistake, not something we intentionally ordered. We had no way of knowing the server brought us a different size. Still, the manager refused to acknowledge any responsibility on her team’s part.
What concerned me most was that she showed no willingness to help, no ownership of the error, and honestly, very little experience in resolving a BASIC customer service issue. She claimed she couldn’t adjust the price unless she called the owner, which made me question why she holds a manager title if she has no authority to fix a simple mistake.
Eventually, she only removed $2 from the $11.59 price, still not matching the actual happy hour price. To make matters worse, our server quietly told us she would have to pay the difference herself, which is completely unfair considering this was a training oversight.
Overall, the manager’s lack of experience, lack of authority, and lack of concern for customer satisfaction overshadowed an issue that could have been resolved in seconds. Instead, we were blamed for something that was not our fault.
I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously. Hugo’s is a place I’ve always enjoyed, and I want to continue supporting it but the management approach absolutely needs improvement.
