Absolutely stellar evening at Hugo’s. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting—perfect for a cold Chicago night. The service was top-tier; our server was attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the Salmon and my friend had the Red Snapper, and both were cooked to perfection. We didn’t leave a single bite on our plates! If you’re looking for fresh seafood and a classic Chicago feel, this is the spot.

had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The steak and lobster were extremely poorly prepared. The meat was stuck to the bone, had a bad texture, and tasted like it was not fresh. It was honestly concerning. After I got home, I ended up vomiting everything I ate, which made the experience even worse and very upsetting.
For a place that claims to specialize in steak and lobster, the quality was completely unacceptable. The food did not seem properly handled or cooked, and it felt unsafe to eat. This restaurant is absolutely not worth the money or the risk. I would not recommend it to anyone.

They start cleaning as you’re still eating. It makes you feel like you’re being kicked out. It’s extremely dismissive, disrespectful, and rude. The waiters are just standing around instead of getting us boxes, asking if we want dessert or at least getting us a check. At least, the manager understood where we were coming from and she comped our entire meal.

Great restaurant with the most iconic table (the elevator). Very accommodating and empathetic waiter. Although the restaurant was fully packed we had all the time to choose and to ask about the different dishes. While we were enjoying our aperitif the waiter showed us the catch of the day. We chose of course the delicious frog legs as a starter. As main course soft crab, sea-bass and a great steak from Gibsons steakhouse next door (I suppose they share the kitchen).
Unforgettable evening!

As a person who cooks frogs legs at home, I’m extremely picky with stuff like that and this place got it right! Plus the atmosphere and attention to detail. I also ordered Aperol Spritz and they made it very American way, so I asked to fix it and make it right, guess what? They did! Looking forward to come back again!

Flavourful food at a remarkable customer service restaurant. Every dish that we finished, the waiters were quick to clear the table and clean it for us. True top notch service. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and the frog legs. It is true as Frog Legs taste like chicken. Delicious meal at a fine restaurant.

I visited this restaurant recently. As an appetizer, since I wasn’t entirely sure about the frog legs, I decided to also order something I’ve had before and know I enjoy — escargots. For the main course, I chose the soft-shell crab.
The place itself is really nice — great atmosphere, and the staff was pleasant as well. However, they misunderstood my appetizer order, and if I hadn’t mentioned it again, they probably wouldn’t have brought it at all. I still don’t understand how they managed to miss both — the frog legs and the escargots.
Taste-wise, the frog legs were excellent, the escargots about a 3/5 (hard to reach a 5 unless they’re done bourguignonne style), and the crab that followed was very good. Overall, it was a mostly positive dining experience.

We chose this place for my birthday dinner, and it was the best meal we’ve had in a long time, both in Chicago and Nashville! I was excited to try the frog legs, which were absolutely fantastic. We took advantage of the happy hour and got the shrimp po’boy sliders and, most importantly, some incredibly affordable oysters. We ordered two dozen oysters in total, sampling both warm and cold ocean varieties. Everything was delicious, and it was a perfect birthday celebration.

Celebrated a birthday here and it was an enjoyable experience. I had the crab cakes for an appetizer, a tomato based fish soup, white fish, mash potatoes and a few roasted veggies. Pros: indoor and outdoor seating. Very pleasant and attentive servers and hosts. The soho was amazing. My friend ordered the clam chowder and that was good as well. Mash potatoes very good. Large shareable portions and the strawberry shortcake (seasonal) was incredibly delicious. Cons: while the fish was good, I think I would have enjoyed it more if it came with a nice butter sauce. I also wish they would list their macros. I try to monitor my caloric intake but couldn’t find that info. Overall, I’d highly rank HFB as one of my top Chicago eateries. It is in the pricier side but worth the splurge. Oh, and they even gave me a b-day card. What a way to make customers feel special!!!
