With the opening of his namesake restaurant in 2002, Ortega journeyed full-circle to rediscover the foods of his homeland. The menu features traditional dishes from the many regions of Mexico, all made from scratch in Mexican tradition, including various cheeses, moles, tortillas and chocolate. The restaurant is also known for its stellar award-winning wine program, cocktail list and tequila menu.

This was my first time here and it was Valentines Day. We had mad reservations but showed up early and was seated immediately (yes we cancelled the reservation). They have several seating areas but it doesn’t seem over crowded at all.
We ordered drinks and do yourself a favor and order the drink with the hibiscus!! It’s delicious.
Next was appetizer we had seen a picture of a sampler but it was not on the menu and our server inquired and YES we were able to order the sampler platter (vegan tacos, one oxtail empanada and one plantain empanada, taquitos and one other thing but the name slips my mind and mole sauce. The entire platter was fantastic. Full of flavor and and just the right size bite. Also did an order and chips, salsa and guac.
We shared an entree because frankly the sample platter was a meal in and out itself. We ordered the pescado (red fish) on half shell. My goodness it was so juicy! It was light fresh and Smokey. Combined with the rice and beans was chefs kiss! It also came with four corn tortillas so boom you can make your own fish taco if you like.
This place is great. Service was amazeballs and they have valet and the price is your choice (tip..we did $10) also the overall bill was not to expensive as well. All and all you will not go wrong if you choose to dine here.

Hugo’s has been around many years and always had a great reputation, but I had never been. That changed in my resent visit to Houston. I stopped in for a mid week lunch. Very nice inside with a lot of seating. You immediately can tell it’s a more high end Mexican food experience. I had no wait but I hear especially for Sunday brunch you better have a reservation. I did the special they run on Thursday and Friday. It’s the two for $30. I chose the Empanadas De Colita De Res and the Lechon. Empanadas has a ton of flavor and come with a cilantro aioli for dipping. It’s has some spice. There is also a mango/fruity dabs of sauce that was my favorite part. I need more of that. The lechon comes with tortillas, pico, cilantro and habanero sauce. The idea is to make your own tacos. Portion is for 4 smaller tacos. The salsa is spicy. The lechon served in a banana leaf was very tender and tasty. My service was good. The only small complaint about my experience is parking. You have to valet or try to find something in the surrounding neighborhoods. Not much to choose from and I could imagine during busy times it could be an issue. Overall, great food and upscale Mexican food experience. I highly recommend.

Absolutely nothing like this anywhere else. Best food and service I’ve ever had at a restaurant, period. This is not your little Tex Mex enchilada joint, and the disparity between that and this is somehow worlds apart with some of the same flavors and dishes.
Every single dish sung. A new note, a fresh harmony alongside the last one and the next. Servers were kind enough to take our photos not once but twice (when the first ones were determined to not have good enough lighting lol).
Can’t speak highly enough about the team here. They’re doing a great job. All the awards and press are certainly well deserved.
Every plate was dang near licked clean.

Came for a friend’s bday dinner. As a non-meat eater , I love that right at the door they asked if anyone in the group needed a vegetarian menu. The options they offer are delicious and glad I didn’t felt left out. I had a chile relleno that as a Mexican I will say, flavor was AUTHENTIC. Even for desserts they offer a vegan chocolate cake which I skipped but would be back to try it ♡ Alcoholic drinks were yummy & all the staff we encountered was nicely attentive even if it was a full Saturday night.

Great autentic Mexican food!! My friend and I enjoyed it very much. We were there for lunch. We ordered vegetarian enchiladas, chapulines, guacamole & salsa. Their homemade tortillas and fresh corn chips were delicious too. For dessert we had queso flan and chocolate cake.

This is not your typical tex-mex place. It is a high end classy restaurants that has a totally different flair about it. Ambiance is inviting and relaxing. High value food dishes are prepared with care perfectly seasoned and artfully presented. Service is prompt, attentive but not pressing. Out water glasses never got more than half empty. If you are looking for elevated food and overall dining experience, this place is for you.

What a great experience at Hugo’s Sunday brunch buffet! Staff was on point, caring for us and the food was off the chain. Everything is perfectly seasoned and although it’s a buffet, it is beautifully presented and each entree is labeled and described. I wish I had thought of taking pictures of my food selections! I was too excited to eat. Believe me, everything was delicious. You won’t go wrong going to Hugo’s. They have the convenience of free valet (you pay tip if you want) and those guys are very friendly. They also had a trio of guys playing live on the balcony which was great! The music was beautiful – nice Spanish melodies. Our waitress stayed on top of our needs and the host up front was great too. Overall an excellent experience at Hugo’s,

The carnitas were incredibly delicious, I loved the charred onion and cilantro served with it. I ate the salsa it came with and it was so good and I never eat salsa because it isn’t my thing. I also loved the pico de gallo. The corn tortillas were better than I’ve ever had in my life, it was shocking because I never really liked corn tortillas but these were so good.
The churros rellenos might be the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. The churros were hot and the ice cream was delicious. There was chocolate on the plate too. I really loved the hot chocolate too. Everything about it was perfect. We were also asked if we wanted another churro since it only comes with 3 and we were sharing it. That was a great call. The churros were well worth the money, definitely end your meal with them.

Love this place. The food is so good here. They switch up the menu occasionally but I’ve never had a dish I didn’t enjoy. I usually go for a stuffed poblano. Their drinks are always well made. I recommend the carajillo for after the meal. The staff is always friendly and readily recommend things if you ask. The atmosphere is comfortable, a little fancy but if you’re not they don’t judge…I don’t recommend workout wear though. They do valet parking…I usually park in the surrounding neighborhood.

The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I ordered the Mariscos al Ajillo, and it was absolutely 10/10 perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality and freshness of the seafood. Definitely one of the best dishes I’ve had in Houston. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back!
