Hubbartt’s Downtown Diner in Mattoon is a great breakfast spot in Mattoon, IL.
The food was delicious and the service was very friendly.
It was classic American breakfast but done very well.
The server got all of our orders correct and was quick with the coffee refills.
I will definitely be coming back on our next visit.

This was our first time here!! Service was very slow, by the time we got our food it was cold! The pancakes had no flavor whatsoever, biscuits and gravy was good but cold!! We never did get a 2nd cup of coffee 🙁 I doubt we will go back!!

Quite the surprise, stumbled on this special establishment! Food is great, ton of options, and the staff is genuinely friendly. Taking a bag of the homemade croutons home as a gift. They even had my favorite box cake at the buffet. 10/10 recommended.

We stopped in for breakfast this morning. We decided to order from the made to order menu in place of eating off the buffet. It looked really good but decided we wanted something different. I had the Western Omelet minus mushrooms and it was fantastic. I had the fried home fries and wheat toast. My wife chose the Western Skillet with over easy eggs. She said it was really good. We shared an order of bacon and of course had to have the sweet tea. Nice diner experience and don’t forget a box of homemade lemon cookies to take home. Great home cooked meal location. We’ve had dinner here in the past but didn’t do a review then. It is definitely a place to visit. Great salad bar for lunch and dinner.

We eat here often. We love the salad bar. And when they have fried green tomatoe blts! Yum!! Also the service is usually always great. A few of the waitress are so fantastic and when they see us they already know what we want to drink and eat unless I change it up and order something I normally dont get.

First time in and oh my goodness! The French toast was absolutely delicious, my over hard eggs were perfect and my extra crispy almost burnt bacon was just how I like it! My husband got the hungry cowboy breakfast and got so full off half of it. Hubby rates it 4/5 only for the hash browns not being his favorite but would eat it all again 🙂 Our server was quick, friendly and attentive while not over bearing or too chatty. 5 out of 5 and will be my family’s new spot when we’re in the area.
Update: hubby and I went back 2 more times with not so good experiences from the cook, servers were still great!

Everything is made from scratch with lots of comfort food on this large menu.
Fast, friendly service.
I loved the chicken and noodles, which was as good as you hope this homey meal will be. Just the right amount of food with two sides. The broccoli was lightly seasoned and still firm and tasty. The coleslaw was light and crunchy. $10.49
The Kicking Cowboy Burger with onion rings was very tasty and perfectly spicy. $10.99
Highly recommend. Great value for the price.

Recommend they inform customers that on Sun if you arrive near end of breakfast buffet you can’t then go to lunch buffet…. before you order. We didn’t get the food we would have eaten. We felt after finding out and we’d just eaten a little breakfast so ate less. We’d have never eaten the breakfast buffet and just waited for lunch buffet bc we’d driven 45 minutes to go to restaurant and had never been there before.

We went at noon, so naturally, they were busy. The friendly, very hard-working server informed us of new computers being installed. About 30 minutes later, our order came out incorrect. Very fortunately, the correction was simple and didn’t require anything to go back to the kitchen. Western omlets are plentiful with chunky grilled filling. Potato cakes were a pleasant surprise and crispy. English muffins grilled on a flat top were not bad tasting but lacked the ridges and pockets which are the reason I get English muffins. The mens room appeared very clean but had an air that spoke of plumbing issues. Overall, I’ll give it another chance.
