Turn on the lights! So dark inside it looks like it’s closed. Overall, good service and the food is pretty decent. If you order the tots, be ready for a huge order!

You just never know in these small out of the way places how the food will be. Three of us ordered three different meals for lunch and all was wonderful. I just can’t say enough good about this place. Food was great. Service beyond good, our waiter was also the cook (and maybe the owner). Now get this, I tried to tip well and he tried to give me money back!!! ( it didn’t work, I left a good tip)……. Everyone should try to keep these places in business, not the chain foods.

I drove my semi from the port of entry off I-84 and took the US 30 Business Route into the town of Huntington. It was around midnight at the time and I found ample parking. The Railroad has a wide lot on the north side of the street. I park my truck. It was very peaceful quiet and safe. I woke up in the morning and was quite surprised at the town setting. I walked across the street into Howells cafe. I was surprised to see a cafe in this small town but they had coffee and a bathroom next door to the cafe is a bar and I heard that it serves up good drinks and good times in the evening. So I got some coffee and order breakfast from the owner he was also cooking. So in the hay day this was once a busy little town next to the lake that offered up lot of fishing the railroad was part of the economy and also in nearby cement plants which is now scaled back quite a bit. The owner brought me my coffee and later my breakfast. It was an order of eggs toast hash browns and a very tasty chicken fried steak with homemade gravy I ate it and it was delicious.. cooked perfectly! I I drank some more coffee headed to the bathroom washed up a bit then I had to drive on down the road towards Portland Oregon chatted with the owner about this in that he told me a little bit history about the town it was a good feeling after I left my belly was full I will definitely stop by when I come through here again!

This restaurant is truly old fashioned. Every seat had cracked and leaking covers and everyting looked real old. I ordered a lil hobo burger with no onions. I had to show her on the menu where the burger was. It was I think called a lil hobo.
The young waitress acted surly and disinterested. The burger came with freshly cut onion slices. I told her I asked for no onions. She told me “No you didn’t.” I removed the onions and set them on a napkin. The burger was fine with lettuce and fresh tomato, tasting of onions which has an effect on my mouth that is a problem I have.
She laid a bill on the table without comment and walked off. I noticed that the burger cost more than it said on the menu. When I went to the counter I mentioned it. She muttered some thing about charging me more for some thing, I really couldn’t understand what she said.
This young woman was apparently angry and disgusted with the world and didn’t care about her job or her customer.
For the first time in many many years, I stiffed her on the tip. I figured she could keep the overcharge.

The restaurant may have good food; but, if that waitress is on duty forget courtesy and expect there to be a different amount on the bill as on the menu.

The male worker is more friendly and helpful. They have a ham and bean soup that’s awesome. My dad called the beans little 44’s. It’s a small white bean. Add corn bread and you have a little bit of heaven.
Some believe the upper part of the building is haunted. An approbation of a woman in old fashioned clothing has been seen.

I would have been a customer there, if I didn’t get rude accusations from the waitress/hostess that greeted me. My friend and I simply walked in to use an atm (Which didn’t work, by the way) and the first thing that comes out of this woman’s mouth is ” Are you looking for the pot shop?'” And continues to complain about the people that walk in to ask where the local Marijuana dispensary is, in the town. I get that it can be annoying and irritating to do so, but assuming that’s what I’m looking for, in a snarky tone- is not apprectiated, and very condescending. We thought about staying and eating, but that comment lost her 2 customers. Won’t be coming in again.

Small town, with a big town cafe. We called ahead to let them know our family of six was coming in for breakfast. The place was pretty much to ourselves, a large sitting area had a reserve table sign on it, and it was for us, thank you.
