Stopped here to celebrate a birthday. I’m glad we did. This is an interesting and unique part of Evansville and is worth a try. It’s always Christmas inside- ask your waitstaff… The building’s exterior looks like it’s from another era, and has been hit with a recent storm. The inside is unique and worth exploring. The staff for our visit was attentive, made great suggestions and enhanced the overall experience- thank you. I tried an old fashioned from the bar while I waited for our party to arrive and was pleased. For dinner we ordered the T-bone, NY strip, pork chops and shrimp. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Steaks are hefty. The pork chops are enormous and the best deal on the menu. In my opinion the chops were better than the steaks, which is rare for me to say. The steaks were good, the crust on them was heavily seasoned. I’ll probably ask for a lighter steak crust next time. Still, this was a well above average steak of well above average size and good quality. The steak was good enough that my wife enjoyed her MEDIUM OR MEDIUM RARE STEAK. which is not normal for her. She needs it to be torched in most situations. Really happy the staff maintained the integrity of the meat for her. Anyone asking for a well done steak here needs to reevaluate their priorities. This is not the place for a piece of beef leather. Prices are elevated, but again, you won’t find another steak or pork chop quite the same here in E’ville. The salad and Arabian bread were interesting and enjoyable. A bit salty, especially for flatbread. We didn’t try dessert this time but seeing other reviews, and also watching how many filets came out of the kitchen while I was there has helped me to know what I’ll be trying next time. Cash or check only.

One of the best steaks I have had. Small place that serves big plates and very nice.

You need a reservation here. One person in our party had talked about going here for years and years. However, the parking lot was full. Doors are not labeled, but the one by the parking lot is the bar, so it’s not the one to go into with kids. We were more or less encouraged to leave as fast as we got in the door and treated pretty rudely, and people stared at us quite a bit. To be fair, it was getting kind of close to closing time. They just said they didn’t have enough room to seat 6 of us. I did see an empty table with 5 chairs and one with 4 chairs. Nothing was said like “Come back and see us again soon,” or offering to make a future reservation. It looked like some people were very dressed up and some were very casual. I couldn’t get a sense for the atmosphere, but the restaurant looked pretty dated overall and the outside sign was falling apart. Of course, I didn’t try the food. I’m not sure if we’ll try again.

It had been several years since we had been to House of Como. Salad and Arabian bread were good! Filet was good but cooked more than requested ( more med well than med rare…). Lyonnaise potatoes came almost 10 min after the steak, and were also overcooked (could not get a fork in them, and had to cut with a knife. Almost thought they were “house chips”). Unfortunately they were out of bread pudding fairly early on a Friday night. Just overall not as good as I remembered.

One star was the worst it would let me give ! My steak looked and tasted like it had been in an incinerator! The sides and salad were very plain . My steak was charcoal on the outside and completely raw on inside! I said something to the waitress and she said this is how are steaks are . Said you must not like the seasoning. We the. Ordered lava cake ,

Brilliant place of another era. 1950s dining experience with steaks all carnivores should try. Don’t worry if the Santa light isn’t shining it’s safe to come on in. Martha (wife of now passed proprietor George) still looks on in this restaurant and family tradition.

Had the T-bone, it was cooked to perfection and tasted great. Our waitress (Stacy) was very helpful and attentive. Just a bit pricey for me but good for a special occasion.

If you’re wanting the best, probably most expensive steak in town this is the place. Filet mignon was spot on and pork chops were great too! The atmosphere is awesome, and it’s such a cool building. Although service was sub par. Took 15 minutes to have our waiter greet us. Not super impressed with the service overall, but food was delicious.

Don’t forget cash or your check book, that’s all they accept. I wasn’t thrilled with the quality of the food for the prices, but they do have a very pleasant staff and unique story behind their decor…. “It’s Always Christmas.” It’s definitely got a story behind it all. Their Arabian salad is delicious.
