We were visiting the Christmas tree & bean and kids got hungry. Some went next door to shake shack, I wanted a poke bowl. I had intentions to walk to another place but saw this and thought to try it. We were pleasantly surprised! Long restaurant in the back makes it much bigger than it is from the outside. We were greeted fast and sat quickly. Son had a ramen bowl, I had a tuna / salmon and a 3rd kind of sushi .. poke bowl. Had one beer, total was about $40. Food was so good, service was fast and we look forward to going back again soon!

Got a gift card and made my way through the cold for some hot food! They have a great menu of the classics like sushi and orange chicken and some fun items like bento boxes and lychee mimosas. The chicken bento was very good and a great portion! It came with a mini salad, fried veggies, miso soup, teriyaki chicken, white rice, and a California roll! A great deal for the price. They also have desserts but I was too full to try this time. Great spot across from Millenium park too!

I’ve visited several times and tried different items from the menu each time. The food is quite tasty, and I especially enjoy the tonkotsu ramen. There are also plenty of vegetarian options, making it a great choice for a casual lunch or dinner downtown. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal after exploring the Michigan Avenue area.

Hot Woks Cool Sushi is a Chicago favorite that blends creativity, flavor, and value in a way that’s hard to beat. Many sushi restaurants either lean toward being pricey or leave you wishing for more — this spot manages to offer both delicious, high-quality food and very accessible prices.
The sushi menu covers everything from traditional rolls to signature creations that feel fresh and inventive. The fish is consistently fresh, the rolls are well-balanced, and the presentation is clean but not pretentious. Just as impressive are the wok dishes, which come out hot, generously portioned, and full of bold flavor. Whether you’re after a comforting noodle bowl, a stir fry, or something lighter like sashimi, you’ll leave satisfied without spending too much.
Where Hot Woks Cool Sushi really shines is in the overall value. You can enjoy a proper sushi night without the sticker shock that often comes with dining out in Chicago. Even the drinks are priced fairly — the shot of Suntory is only $7.95, which is almost unheard of in the city. That small detail alone shows that they care about making the experience accessible while still delivering quality.
The atmosphere is lively and modern but still casual enough that you can bring family, meet up with friends, or enjoy a laid-back date night. The staff is attentive, friendly, and always ready with helpful recommendations if you’re unsure what to try.
All in all, Hot Woks Cool Sushi delivers fresh, flavorful dishes, creative rolls, hearty wok meals, and drinks at prices that won’t break the bank. It’s a place you can visit often without guilt — and every time, you’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next trip back.

Dined here on 2/6/25, before taking in a show at CSO. I often dine at the Pulaski location with no issues, so anticipated a good experience here.
Incredibly disappointing. There were items crossed out sloppily in marker on the menus, and even when we ordered other items, they kept telling us they didn’t have it, or didn’t have certain ingredients. This happened multiple times.
Then the icing on the cake is (pun intended), we tried to salvage dinner by ordering desert, and ordered the hazelnut mocha cake. They brought it out, and although it looked good at first glance, before taking a bite I noticed, thank God, that the icing looked odd. I peeled away a section and there was furry, green mold inside the cake.
At that point we just got the check and left; would NEVER eat here again. They should be shut down.

I hated my food. Asked if I could get fried rice, was told no that they don’t have fried rice. They have 2 dishes literally called Fried Rice…. So that was odd. Food was quick and my wife really liked her sushi. We had to find our waiter to pay, she wasn’t accessible. Other tables had a different waiter and had much better service. They charge a credit card surcharge.

Visiting from out of town and stumbled across this place. The service was fast, the food was reasonably priced, and above all, it was delicious!
Pictured are chicken yakisoba, spicy garlic ramen, california roll, and lychee mimosa.

The best sushi I have ever had! Mega Vega Sushi absolutely blew me away — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Everything else on the menu is quite decent as well, but the sushi is truly the standout here. Overall, it’s a very nice Asian restaurant with a warm atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended for sushi lovers!

The restaurant has a great location right on Michigan Avenue, but the food didn’t meet expectations. Waiting time about 40-60 minutes. The order shrimp tempura came out dry and overcooked, more like a 3/10. The Tom Yum soup was also disappointing, with raw vegetables and none of the real Thai flavor 4/10. The atmosphere 4/10. Service and food quality need improvement.

I had the spicy garlic ramen at Hot Woks Cool Sushi more than two years ago, and I still crave it. That’s how memorable it was.
The flavor was bold, garlicky, and perfectly spicy—comforting and addictive. The atmosphere was just as good: warm, lively, and inviting. It left such a strong impression that it’s still one of my favorite food memories in Chicago.
Can’t wait to come back someday.
