Can someone explain to me this hot for pizza sidewalk thing? – Reddit

Walking in, there is plenty of seating in the small venue and the music is just the right volume for listening and still having conversations. There are TVs on a variety of channels which is awesome because I don’t have to watch just sports. The servers and bartenders are really nice and don’t mind answering questions about the menu. I ordered the Black cherry bourbon limeade, and it was delicious! For dinner, I ordered a medium pizza with a pesto base that was perfectly cooked. The flavor combos were amazing! I will definitely be going back because the vibe was great and the food was even better.

Great spot for a low key date night or for hanging after work.

I truly love Hot for Pizza and I’m not writing this as a negative review, but more as honest feedback. I order from here often and always ask for extra sauce and unfortunately I never seem to get it. Tonight, I even came in early before my pizza went into the oven and asked again for extra sauce. The bartender was kind enough to go back and confirm it, but my pizza still came out very dry

Bartender was so mellow. Very laid back atmosphere, everyone seems to know each other. The food is AMAZING. Fried tofu, spicy garlic is so insanely good. Cheese curds are the BEST I have ever had. Stromboli and pizza were also pretty awesome, and the stromboli is massive.

The interior decor is giving. I really love the pizza !!! The music here is always Jamming and the vibe is laid back and chill. The customer service is what I love. All of the staff is very attentive and still laid back. I like that they play cartoons (big kid at heart) and the food amazing.. I am addicted to the pizza. I ordered 2 plain slices for lunch and came back 2 days later for 2 slices (roasted garlic, spinach, and Feta) delicious. Shout out to the cooks. The pizza is always well done without request. This is now my new favorite pizza place!

I’ve never written a review before, but this experience genuinely sucked.

I had heard and read so many good reviews about this place so I decided to try it out with my dad after I got off work today. When we walked in, there was no obvious host area or seating instructions. However, it was decently packed for its size so I initially assumed the host might be busy. We waited by the door for a few minutes with no acknowledgment, before I walked to the bar to try to flag down a bartender in hopes of finding the host. I stood at the end of the bar for about 5 minutes, while I waited for the bartender to make his way down to the couple he had been servicing when I walked in. After he checked in on the couple beside me, I said “excuse me” multiple times to try and get his attention and he quite literally just turned and around acted like I wasn’t there lol. At this point I’m like ??? but okay he’s busy and maybe he genuinely didn’t see me. So I wait until I see another employee heading my direction and attempt to stop him. Immediately he looks irritated, so I quickly ask “hey is there a host available? or do you guys do seat yourself here?”, he points to a table says “seat yourself” and just walks off. So I’m kinda thrown off but okay whatever at this point I just want to try the pizza and the cheese curds. My dad and I are sitting there for like 10 minutes before the same server drops menus on the table and 2 waters without a word. No “Hey welcome in, I’ll be with you in just a second”, just silently slid them on the table and walked away. We sat there another 5 minutes waiting to put our drink orders in when the bartender came from behind the bar and checked on the tables seated beside us. When we again attempted to briefly stopped him he walked right by us without saying anything. Honestly, at this point my dad was pissed and I was tired from work so we left. This experience really saddened me because this is my first time as a black woman where I felt blatantly ignored. I don’t necessarily think it was racially motivated though because the black server basically ignored me too lol.

TLDR: Really cool atmosphere but I didn’t get to try the food because they ignored me – you might have better luck if your white though LMAO

9/20/24 – Came here with 6 friends for a bachelorette. We ordered 4 pizzas, captain planet, the hot date, Running with the basil, and I can’t remember the last one. We sat outside and had to order from the bar. We really enjoyed the pizza and sitting outside. We also got an appetizer. My favorite was the running with basil and captain planet. The inside decor is pretty cool but it is a small space so that is why we sat outside. Would be happy to try it again, we also found street parking right next to the place.

I live in norfolk and have been dying to try this place, so did so this Richmond trip. Greet music and vibe and the food was amazing. We got a cheese pizza, a pepe le pew pizza and teriyaki boneless – also my son who has an ASD related eating disorder ordered a sandwich roll for lunch, lol. Three adults, a nine year old boy and four year old girl – we loved it!

We’ve been wanting to try Hot for Pizza for a while now. We went on a Saturday afternoon after lunch time. It’s a cool, divey little joint with a Van Halen theme and kitschy, funky vibe. We waited almost an hour for two pizzas but staff was apologetic and kept the cold beers coming. Had the Captain Planet and the Van Zuylen. Pretty good stuff and there are plenty more creative specialty pizzas we would go back and try.

We had a really great experience stopping in for lunch on a quiet Friday. Server/bartender was really great. If the receipt was correct, her name was Mel. Really good energy and super-friendly. The menu is extensive, so there’s a lot of choice. What’s nice is you can get the specials by the slice, since they can add the toppings on-demand. I went simple with a slice of cheese and a slice with sausage. My wife had a small alteration on the Hot Date pizza by dropping the date ( ) and adding pepperoni. The crust is nice and thin, held up well, and was crispy. She loved her slice… So much that this week we’re making pizza at home and she wants to recreate it. Drinks were good as well. One TINY downside was I wanted to get some t-shirts, but they didn’t have the style I wanted. Sort of understandable as we were there just after Christmas, so they likely had a holiday run.

EDIT: I didn’t think the shirts were available online… But they replied and said I can order! AWESOME and thank you for the reply. ❤️

Overall, I’ll definitely head back next time we’re in Richmond.

I loved everything about this place! The vibe was great, the staff was awesome, and the pizza was amazing. My date ordered the Homer’s BBBQ and I ordered the Thom Willis white pie…SO GOOD!

I found out about HFP via a “Best Wings in RVA” discussion but didn’t try them, next time!
