The fish is very good but those fries SUCK! They are light brown bricks and I even asked about them before I ordered and he said “I make them fresh”… Sir, get a new brand/type all together. People may not think fries are important but fish and fries go hand and hand and they fries were so bad, I don’t want to come back for the fish. And it’s a large tray of those bricks too.

I’m here from out of town and decided to go to Joshua’s for some fish. The fish was fresh, fried to perfection and seasoned well, and the fries were also good, they were nothing like the other reviewer said . This will be my go to place for fish and fries when I’m back in Oakland. Try it for yourself you won’t be disappointed.

Tried this place on my lunch break on a whim…ordered the 6 piece prawns and fries..and it came with a side of bread and all the condiments (tarter sauce, hot sauce, ketchup) i was surprised they fried the prawns in a beer batter rather than cornmeal like the fish is fried in. And it was thick breading like a corn dog. The batter was seasoned but it was just alot of dough. Maybe next time i go, ill ask to have them to fry the prawns in corn meal as well. The fries were a little over done too, fried hard.

This place is too good. Tasty fish n chips for a good price. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall meant for take away, there are only a couple of seats inside mostly there for you to wait for your order. I’d recommend!

I got a 2pc catfish and fries but went off their reviews like almost 5 stars gotta be bomb and idk who is eating this or who is reviewing & their taste buds. Super bland fish, was cooked perfectly but absolutely no seasoning. U gotta add salt to the fries. Service was great.

This place is awesome!!! It’s small but just right for someone who loves seafood. For several years I’ve eating seafood cooked personally by Mr. Joshua himself. This place is an historical landmark and gives Oakland the recognition of having good taste!

I got the 333 combo with three fried oysters, three fried shrimp, and three pieces of fried catfish. Everything was cooked PERFECTLY! Moist and tender meat with a crispy crust. Absolutely classic. The combo was a lot of food! It came with Louisiana style hot sauce, tartar sauce, and ketchup, as well as plenty of fries.
Service was cheerful and very friendly. There isn’t any seating, so it’s really take-out only.
The one minor criticism I have is that the fries were pretty mediocre, but they really aren’t the main attraction here anyway.

The fish was absolutely DELICIOUS! The oysters, fish and shrimp were excellent! The owners are so very kind & courteous. It was my husband & I first visit and they gave us two beverages. We certainly look forward to ordering more wonderful seafood dishes.
