Cozy dining in a rustic log-cabin restaurant focusing on steaks & seasonal ingredients.

Love the Ranch property & XC ski here everyday during our week long visit. First time securing a dinner reservation. Skipped the sleigh ride option. Restaurant ambiance is gorgeous inside. Our seating section was not in the main restaurant portion but in a room off the bar area. Was kinda chilly even with the room heaters that night. Be prepared. Service was fantastic & food delicious. Although, my husband didn’t think that his Tomahawk that he shared with our nephew was anything special; thinks the steak options here in Texas are far superior. The lions mane mushrooms appetizer & the sweet potato mash were incredibly tasty. Pork chop & elk chops phenomenal! And the pasta devoured by all!

Probably worth the visit if you’re in the area from an overall experience standpoint. Overall it was nothing special from a food standpoint. Cocktails are solid. Desserts are great. The food was below expectations for sure but still a positive dining experience.

If you want a unique western dining experience in the mountains of Big Sky try Horn and Cantle, however it did not stand up to the many strong recommendations we had from locals. Start your experience in the bar with an innovative bar menu and cozy Wild West feel. All meals are shareable which was our mistake, ordering a full meal for each of us. Bison filet very tasty but since it came much rarer than I ordered I needed to eat around center which was too rare. Filet was large enough, though to be satisfied. For the price, meat should be cooked as ordered, thus only 3 stars. Tuesday is rodeo night so it was quiet for a Friday night. One interesting menu item were the flights of wine available. Not flights of glasses of wine but flights of bottles of wine. Anywhere from 5-7 bottles, each of a different vintage year. The Heitz Cellars Martha’s Vineyard 5 bottle selection vintage years 2018, 19, 20, 21, 23 was listed at $1,500. That was cheap compared to the number one flight for $7,500 (don’t remember cellar).

Dinner at Horn and Cantle is Worth It, if you’ve ever watched that series. The atmosphere, service, and food all align wonderfully to create an experience that is truly memorable.
My wife and I enjoyed an early Valentine’s dinner. Although we didn’t have reservations, the hostess was able to seat us on a Thursday evening with a wonderful spot near the fireplace. Our cocktails were perfectly executed and started our meal off on the right foot. We chose salads, which were both plentiful and delicious — fresh ingredients put together correctly, and not over dressed in any way.
With so many choices on the menu, my wife decided on the appetizer feast for her entree — elk meatballs, trout dip, and mushroom plate. The simple descriptions didn’t do this feast justice, as it would have been more than enough for both of us to be sated, but each of the dishes complemented the others. Highly recommended. My bison short rib was equally outstanding, perfectly executed and a single was more than enough food.
The server also provided sommelier service and helped us select a bottle of Cote de Rhone that worked very nicely with all of our selections.
Although we couldn’t come close to finishing our entrees/feast, we shared the signature carrot cake and were glad we did.
If you’re deciding whether to visit Horn and Cantle, you might be considering other options like M further up the mountain (where we had an excellent dinner earlier in the week). The experiences are different and while you can’t go wrong with either place, choose Horn and Cantle: you will not have this type of experience elsewhere, and isn’t that what you want at Big Sky?

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in my life! We went with a group of 8, plus an infant, and every single person’s drinks and meals were delicious. Celebrated a birthday and got the biggest birthday dessert. Would highly recommend as a must go for anyone in the area of Big Sky.

If you make a reservation here, request to be seated away from the kitchen entrance. I took my mom here, after she flew in from Pittsburgh. It took 15 minutes for our waiter to greet us and take any kind of order. Sitting by the kitchen was absolutely chaotic on a busy night – waiters hustling by, shouting in the kitchen, dropping plates. I often could not hear what my mom was saying, even though we were just a two top table. Our waiter had a rushed, somewhat aggressive energy. I had to focus on keeping calm. Nothing about the experience was relaxing until the crowd cleared out at 9 pm. By then, I just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. On the upside, the food is excellent and the decor cool.

Went with a group of nine last night. Had the best time! We got drinks at the bar while we waited for our table (we made reservations a few hours before dinner, so we got a late dinner time), but they were able to seat us early. We ordered every appetizer on the menu, and top picks were the brussel sprouts & truffle fries. Short rib is a must have! We also loved all the desserts we got: choc chip cookie, carrot cake, baked Alaska. Everything was great!! Food, drinks, service, atmosphere all 5 stars for us! Nice bonus was at the end of dinner we saw elk outside, which since we are from out of town was really cool for us!

Went for lunch the week before Christmas. Was there to visit family working on the ranch. The lunch was lovely. We had wings, truffle fries and a salad. Really everything was yummy, served hot and crispy!
The environment is historic, very comfortable and the staff super friendly.
Haven’t mentioned the cocktails yet!! Delicious seasonal offerings.

I detoured here for dinner one night while road-tripping from Whitefish to Yellowstone. For starters, they get an A+ for vibe and ambiance, inside and out. It’s a full-blown ranch with a gravel road leading up a hill, and horses outside, yet it still feels luxurious and cozy in every way inside. They have a solid menu; it’s not super extensive but has a good variety for different moods. The complimentary toasted sourdough and butter were very tasty. When I mention bread service in a review, it’s good! The elk meatball had decent flavors, but the ricotta helped elevate it a lot. It was an enjoyable starter and came out in like 2 minutes. For the entree, the cook on the salmon was literal perfection!.. super crispy skin and my knife went through it like butter. The sauce was amazing and super unique; I could eat it with anything. Overall, service was good, and it was well worth the 30-minute detour!

The food was exceptional. We ate at the bar – it is VERY loud! this was seriously the best pork chop I’ve ever had in my entire life. The au gratin potatoes were also delicious.
Next time we will reserve a table far in advance. We were very lucky to score a table at the bar but only because we showed up early. Staff was very busy, but they did a good job.
The only thing that would make it better would be to enforce a 21 and up bar area. The bar was fun and lively, but should be for adults only.
There was not much seating and kids were crowding our table. The food was exceptional. We ate at the bar and did not know what to expect , but this was seriously the best pork chop I’ve ever had in my entire life. The au gratin potatoes were also delicious.
