Its a local establishment thats been there for over 80 years. Ordered the “Legendary” Barberton chicken and don’t be fooled, it’s just pieces of fried chicken with average fries, mediocre cole slaw and “hot” rice that tasted like it came from a can. Nothing special about it. The chicken itself was fine but the meal as a whole was pretty underwhelming. Had a quaint vibe and charm though so I’ll give it that.

Love this place! Hopocan Gardens serves delicious Barberton style chicken. The chicken is juicy and tender with a light breading on the outside. The french fries are fresh cut and their homemade hot sauce and coleslaw are to die for!

I came for Barberton chicken and was not disappointed. I ordered a chicken dinner which comes with 3 sides. I chose the 4 piece white which is 2 breasts and 2 drummets. They brought out some bread with my drink. The fried chicken is unique as it is a Serbian recipe and deep fried in lard. You will not get that taste except when it is Barberton chicken that this town is famous for. I chose my 3 sides as French fries which were hot and tasty, hot rice which was good, but the cole slaw was awesome. It is made fresh every morning and is vinegar based. I am not usually a cole slaw fan as I don’t really care for the cream sauce version. The fresh vinegar based slaw was making me want seconds. Nice atmosphere and good service.

Ordered paprikash for takeout. Dumplings where so dense and dry and “sauce” was like someone poured an entire can of seasoning into as little liquid as possible. Threw 3/4 of it away! Will pay more to go to a competitor for edible paprikash.

We arrived about 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon. This was our first time, and highly recommended by a friend that was born and raised there. It took a few minutes until a server came to take order, but she did acknowledge us and informed us about the wait. We ordered the classic. It took about 35 to 40 minutes or so for order to arrive. Leah our server kept checking in and apologizing for how long it was taking.
Food arrived and was hot and very good. Loved the slaw and rice. Chicken was very moist, but could have used a little more seasoning. Fries were perfect. Leah our server did a great job. Very much enjoyed and will be back when in vicinity again. ( bathrooms could use some cleaning and fixed up some. )

Well I went to this location on a few occasions. One of which was Evelyn Clark’s birthday years back when the great military veteran and founder of Clark realty was still alive in her 90’s. Then again for my aunt Judy’s 65 birthday. Been there several other times meeting family for historical events. The place itself is historical. Like it was sealed in a ice capsule on Antarctica. Employees are friendly and the food choices range from chicken to burgers and the mashed potatoes and dressing were delicious. I appreciate the hard work that these small business owners put forth.

Barberton is known for its chicken dinner houses. Hopocan Gardens has endured time and still serves the best chicken dinners of all the houses. The food is great, the ownership is great, and the servers are the best. I was born and raised in Barberton and left after high school. However whenever I come back I stop in for dinner.
