South Congress, or SoCo as we locals like to call it, refers to a neighborhood in Austin’s South Congress Avenue famous for its eclectic atmosphere. SoCo embodies Austin’s original style and vibe and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Enjoy stunning skyline views of the State Capitol and downtown cityscape as you head north on SoCo. When you walk down South Congress, you’ll find the iconic Willie Nelson and i love you so much wall art. If live music is what you’re looking for, you can hear music playing as you stroll past street performers. Here in SoCo, you’ll also find Hopdoddy’s original location. SoCo is where it started and years later, we’re still serving locals and tourists on Austin’s famed South Congress Avenue.

I got fries and a shake during the great Austin ice storm of ‘26 (which kept Mike Truty homebound – what a relief) when they were the only place that stayed open on all of South Congress.
Big to Alex and Javier for good service and to whoever runs the playlist. The Ocean Blue is a great deep pull.
The not good? We both ordered the Buffalo Bill burger and the heat level was very high on this particular day! My buddy LOVES spice and even he had a bit of trouble. The green chili cheese sauce was also hotter than normal according to him. Since I can’t handle spice that well it put a damper on the experience. HOWEVER! I would definitely go back…I would just order something different.
We had a group of 12 people, including three kids, and they were very accommodating. The kids’ seating was convenient and thoughtfully set up, which made things easy for our group.
With a party that size, we were able to try a wide range of the menu. We ordered the Cadillac Wagyu, Double Bacon Jam, The Classic, and the Goodnight Burger — and every single one was tasty and cooked perfectly.
I will be craving the fried Brussels sprouts forever. The hot honey sweet potato fries were delicious — I don’t normally order sweet potato fries, but I would absolutely get them again here
First, they assign you a seat while you are waiting to order. The place wasn’t close to full, but for some reason we were told where to sit.
Second, ordering took a long time for no reason.
Third, I asked to move to a different table when we saw where we had been assigned. The staff acted like it was a big deal that I asked to sit where I wanted to sit.
Fourth, the person who brought our food out noticed that mine had bacon on it even though I didn’t ask for bacon. I don’t eat bacon but denied her offer to have it remade as I could just remove it. The silly part is that it was one piece of bacon…
This isn’t somewhere I would eat at again.
