The king crab only had two legs, the rest of the weight was knuckle joints. All of the crab and corn was boiled several minutes too long, which caused the meat to be tough and the shells to be hard to break normally. The corn has a strange texture and also seemed to be overdone.
For spending $260 before the tip, I was severely disappointed with the quality of the food. I don’t mind waiting 30 minutes for food, but when the food comes out overcooked, it frustrates me and my fiancé to see such an expensive bill for food that left us both dissatisfied.
We came during a really busy time and waited a while for our food, and honestly it felt rushed out with no care for quality. The sauce was extremely oily, very thin, and overwhelmingly salty. There was no lemon flavor, no pepper, and no spice at all, even though it was ordered lemon pepper spicy.
The seafood itself was cooked fine (not mushy), but everything tasted the same just salt. There was also a slight funky/cheesy smell coming from the sauce, which made it even harder to enjoy.
This didn’t feel like a preference issue, it felt like poor execution during a rush. I hate wasting money on food when flavors aren’t done right, especially when the basics of the seasoning are missing. I’ve had lemon pepper many times before, and this was nowhere close.
I hope they can do better when it’s busy, because this experience was disappointing.
We ordered the Family Combo A:
2 Lobster Tails
1/2 lb clams
1 lb Snow Crab Legs
1/2 lb crawfish
1 lb shrimp
4 eggs
1/2 lb sausage
4 corn
1/2 lb black mussel
4 potato
Broccoli
Garlic Butter Sauce
It came in a giant steam bag and we at everything.
I wanted to do Cajun seasoning and regretted letting my group play it safe with garlic butter.
It fed 3 hungry people very well.
The Cajun chicken Alfredo was unfortunately not at all what one of our party was hoping for. They used a different cheese sauce and while more authentic Italian, it was a “do not order again”.
I recommend trying one of their combos for a family or small group. It was a fun experience!
Appetizers came out quickly, which was appreciated. However, the oysters were very fishy and quite small, definitely not worth it. The etouffee was delicious and probably the best part of the meal.
Unfortunately, the main courses took over an hour to arrive. While we understood it was a busy holiday. When the food finally came, it was extremely salty, overwhelmingly so.
We did take some leftovers home, and my husband ate some the next day. He ended up with vomiting and diarrhea, which was very concerning.
What made it even better was our waitress, Laura. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without us even having to ask. She gave great recommendations and checked in often with a smile, making us feel welcome and taken care of the entire time.
We will be back for another seafood boil soon, and we’ll be asking for Laura again! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great place for fresh seafood with excellent service.

The service was another big plus. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and patient, especially when explaining the menu. Since it was my first time, I appreciated the helpful tips on how to enjoy the meal (the seafood boils come with a fun, hands-on eating experience).
The restaurant itself has a casual and relaxed vibe, which I loved. It’s perfect for a laid-back meal, whether you’re with family or just hanging out with friends. While it’s part of a chain, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service—it felt like a much more personal experience than I was expecting from a chain restaurant.
Overall, Hook & Reel is a great spot if you’re craving seafood. The flavors are bold, the portions are large, and the service is excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in the mood for a seafood feast! Highly recommend it for anyone who loves fresh, flavorful seafood.
