I’ve been coming to this location for over 30 years. I haven’t been for a few years and my kid was really craving teriyaki so we made the drive to Puyallup for a little nostalgia.
I don’t think this place is managed by the same people. The place looks pretty much the same but possibly under new management.
The older woman who worked here for many years was not here. I didn’t recognize any of the usual staff. There is another woman behind the counter tonight. She was busy getting things done. She is loud and capable, but could rub people the wrong way. She means well, but I think things get lost in translation. For example this evening a customer ordered food through DoorDash and came to pick it up. The woman behind the counter tried to tell the customer it would be $20 cheaper to order through the store directly instead of paying for in-store pickup through DoorDash. The woman behind the counter came across loud and bossy. The customer left upset and obviously confused. The woman behind the counter said she just wanted her customers to not pay extra money.
The food tonight is different than it had been all the years I’ve known this place too. Everything is saucy, even the teriyaki. Still has a good taste and good sized portions, just different. The woman behind the counter was juggling online orders, phone orders, walk-in orders and table service. Our drinks were refilled twice and our food came out quick and hot. Bathrooms were clean, restaurant was clean.
Tonight is Thursday and there was a lot of business there.

One of my favorite local Teriyaki places for decades. I love their bento boxes, and extra food for another meal. The tempura is not soggy and a generous portion. Just all around delicious. I love their new seating, looks very Japandi/ mcm.

They are so nice and you get your food pretty quick.

I got delivery the food was ok. Hot and Sour soup and bbq pork. The portions were good but no condiments were included except for a very small container of hot mustard. No dressing for the salad and had to use my own condiments. Disappointing. Won’t order from here again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Phenomenal Teriyaki!

Honto Teriyaki in Puyallup is hands down the best teriyaki spot in town! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Just look at these portions!

The noodles were packed with rich umami flavor, perfectly stir-fried to that ideal texture.
The orange chicken was crispy yet tender, coated in a deliciously sweet and tangy sauce with just the right amount of sesame seeds for extra crunch.
The beef short ribs and teriyaki chicken were absolute perfection—juicy, smoky, and covered in that signature house-made teriyaki sauce that keeps me coming back!
The fried rice was fluffy and well-seasoned, with fresh veggies mixed in for the perfect bite every time.

✅ Portions are HUGE – you get more than your money’s worth.
✅ Service is fast and friendly, with welcoming owners who genuinely care about their customers.
✅ The flavors are authentic, bold, and downright addictive.

If you’re looking for the best teriyaki in Puyallup, Honto Teriyaki is the place to go. Highly recommend!

If I could leave zero stars i would. The food was bland and soggy and just not edible, it tasted like it was sitting in a hot plate for hours. My family and I ordered 3 plates ( orange chicken and fried rice, honey garlic with steamed rice, and the standard chicken teriyaki) that cost up to $56 which is almost $20 a plate, with that kind of pricing im expecting food that is at least edible. I had called to ask if I could bring the food back since we lived five min away and get a refund. we had only taken a bite each of our food. The lady who was working the front, possible owner, asked what was wrong, which i explained what I stated above, but because we took take out that was normal according to her and she could not do so and that clearly since we aren’t regulars; since she’s never seen us, (dont see how that matters) that we simply may just not like theyre style of food. My friend called back and which her response was to bring back the food and she’ll refund us but we were never to come back. With that kind of customer service and attitude I and my family will never go back. I highly recommend going else where. As a regular teriyaki connoisseur im highly disappointed on how she chose to handle the situation, and saddened by the quality food we were served.

First of all, for the prices of the food, I expected better. Maybe the economy is making them take more of a hit, who knows. Its just too much for what we paid for. Closer to $20 than $10 for one single person meal. A lot of food, though, which makes up for the prices.

My gma and I decided to try this place out because I DD and picked up food here a few times and it seemed popular.

The lady up front is fine, but clearly doesn’t want to be there? Don’t know, not really my business. Would just recommend trying to appear like you are there and not slacking off on your phone within sight of customers. Just doesn’t look professional. There was only one other group dining in besides us doing take out.

Now the food. It was okay. We got it really quickly which is both cool and concerning. The yakisoba was the weirdest tasting yakisoba noodles I have ever had. There was this weird like nutmeg or cinnamon taste to them? I dont know, but it was oddly spiced and sweet almost. Not to mention just one singular broccoli? Seems to be a theme with other reviews. The teriyaki looked like cooked chicken with sauce dumped on top. Not charred/grilled like i usually expect for chicken teriyaki. (Forgot to take a photo, oops). But the salad and rice was good.

Would i recommend? No. Would i come back? Definitely not.

Let’s start here, the lady working there (possible owner- horrible attitude) !! I can’t believe I spent $70 on rude service, two tiny little meals, and poor service.Extremely small portions. One scoop of fried rice (which was all soggy peas), short ribs that were mostly bones, and rude service!!!!

There, I got more specific with my review since you’re extremely confused on the message! No one cares about the $$$- it’s the quality of food and service.

When I eat at HONTO Teriyaki II in Bonney Lake, it costs the EXACT same- except, they have name brand water, normal size delicious portions of food, and extremely kind owners.

So when I mention several issues with my experience and your response is that all teriyaki places charge that, you’re missing the mark! Like, what?!

It’s annoying to spend $70 and the food is less than par and the lady behind the counter is angry at the world! This is after she was yelling over me on the phone, BTW.

You have about 250 reviews talking about how rude the woman is…. So, I would stop defending prices and work on a better attitude! Turn that frown, upside down!!!

Cheers Mate!

They are open on Sundays which is so great for when you don’t want to cook. We have visited here twice now, and have enjoyed both times. I love that they also have an online ordering system for those who don’t like making calls or just like putting an order in visually. The gal at the front is so nice and always packs our order perfectly.

I called ahead to get 5 orders of chicken teriyaki. It was bagged up and ready when I arrived. The woman at the counter was very nice, greeted me with a smile, and asked how my day was going. Pleasant surprise! Everybody commented at how much chicken we got, and it wasn’t over-cooked. In short, Honto was great!
