I don’t think this place is managed by the same people. The place looks pretty much the same but possibly under new management.
The older woman who worked here for many years was not here. I didn’t recognize any of the usual staff. There is another woman behind the counter tonight. She was busy getting things done. She is loud and capable, but could rub people the wrong way. She means well, but I think things get lost in translation. For example this evening a customer ordered food through DoorDash and came to pick it up. The woman behind the counter tried to tell the customer it would be $20 cheaper to order through the store directly instead of paying for in-store pickup through DoorDash. The woman behind the counter came across loud and bossy. The customer left upset and obviously confused. The woman behind the counter said she just wanted her customers to not pay extra money.
The food tonight is different than it had been all the years I’ve known this place too. Everything is saucy, even the teriyaki. Still has a good taste and good sized portions, just different. The woman behind the counter was juggling online orders, phone orders, walk-in orders and table service. Our drinks were refilled twice and our food came out quick and hot. Bathrooms were clean, restaurant was clean.
Tonight is Thursday and there was a lot of business there.
They are so nice and you get your food pretty quick.
Honto Teriyaki in Puyallup is hands down the best teriyaki spot in town! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Just look at these portions!
The noodles were packed with rich umami flavor, perfectly stir-fried to that ideal texture.
The orange chicken was crispy yet tender, coated in a deliciously sweet and tangy sauce with just the right amount of sesame seeds for extra crunch.
The beef short ribs and teriyaki chicken were absolute perfection—juicy, smoky, and covered in that signature house-made teriyaki sauce that keeps me coming back!
The fried rice was fluffy and well-seasoned, with fresh veggies mixed in for the perfect bite every time.
✅ Portions are HUGE – you get more than your money’s worth.
✅ Service is fast and friendly, with welcoming owners who genuinely care about their customers.
✅ The flavors are authentic, bold, and downright addictive.
If you’re looking for the best teriyaki in Puyallup, Honto Teriyaki is the place to go. Highly recommend!

See my food pics!
My gma and I decided to try this place out because I DD and picked up food here a few times and it seemed popular.
The lady up front is fine, but clearly doesn’t want to be there? Don’t know, not really my business. Would just recommend trying to appear like you are there and not slacking off on your phone within sight of customers. Just doesn’t look professional. There was only one other group dining in besides us doing take out.
Now the food. It was okay. We got it really quickly which is both cool and concerning. The yakisoba was the weirdest tasting yakisoba noodles I have ever had. There was this weird like nutmeg or cinnamon taste to them? I dont know, but it was oddly spiced and sweet almost. Not to mention just one singular broccoli? Seems to be a theme with other reviews. The teriyaki looked like cooked chicken with sauce dumped on top. Not charred/grilled like i usually expect for chicken teriyaki. (Forgot to take a photo, oops). But the salad and rice was good.
Would i recommend? No. Would i come back? Definitely not.
There, I got more specific with my review since you’re extremely confused on the message! No one cares about the $$$- it’s the quality of food and service.
When I eat at HONTO Teriyaki II in Bonney Lake, it costs the EXACT same- except, they have name brand water, normal size delicious portions of food, and extremely kind owners.
So when I mention several issues with my experience and your response is that all teriyaki places charge that, you’re missing the mark! Like, what?!
It’s annoying to spend $70 and the food is less than par and the lady behind the counter is angry at the world! This is after she was yelling over me on the phone, BTW.
You have about 250 reviews talking about how rude the woman is…. So, I would stop defending prices and work on a better attitude! Turn that frown, upside down!!!
Cheers Mate!
